I suspect the thought process on these lineups goes like this:
- start with teams and games they think warrant recognition
- was there a clean sheet? If yes, consider GK and CBs, and in rare cases DMs, if not
- choose (1) goal scorers, (2) multiple or super snazzy assist generators, and (3) very occasionally maestro types who neither score nor have an assist
- if you need to rank goals by people who scored only once, do so by looking at scoring plays
- pick coach of the week based on any in-game change that is followed by obvious result
We won on the road against LAFC which MLS digital rates high. Plus it was a comeback which creates easy narrative flow, so we were destined to have at least one rep on the team and probably more. Ronny made a big move -- 4 subs at once! -- and we scored twice soon after with the subs getting 2 assists and 1 goal, so he gets COTW. We did not win because of defense, so the voters looked at our goals. Medina's goal looks more impressive than Shradi's so Medina is First Team and Shradi second. Assists by Tinny and Morales not shiny enough to break through goal scoring priority.
