Our club has a negative cash flow.
When I attended a talk with Ferran Soriano a couple of summers ago, he said two things of relevance.
1 - He has believed in the U.S. soccer market, and specifically in a NYC team, since he was at Barcelona. One reason he joined CFG was their willingness to build the empire that Barća was not willing to build. They are showing their commitment to building a long term elite club in NYC by committing $500 million to build a stadium.
2 - He views the Clubs in a kind of heirarchy of quality and thinks one of the purposes NYCFC serves is to develop talent that can be used by or sold my Man City. He specifically mentioned Castellanos as an example of this.
Yes, these two goals can be in tension with each other at times, but mostly they don’t have to be. Yes, Harrison and Herrera were moved out, but they were terrific, productive players while they were here. Remember this about our role as a developer of talent. It’s really only a detriment if we are playing people who aren’t good enough, and we haven’t been doing that.
