not that anybody cares with Weibe thinks.. but his instant replay review on MLS agrees with the red dogso card and the PK.

I ... think so (mentally constructing a Venn diagram). But as said below by others, I think it's not super obvious it was DOGSO, and not super obvious that it was a foul to me.
Looking at it again with the idea that Taty still could have played the ball I’m okay with it being a DOGSO. It was a dumb play by the Rev.’s defender as you have said.
Ahhh, it kind of makes me feel better that I can enjoy a win without taint.

Yep. I said we might have to wait until Friday for the PRO videos to see what actually happened, but Instant Replay had the angle we need. First Taty gets a touch; then the defender gets a touch; then the defender clears out Taty who had the inside track to the ball.

If there is any claim it is not DOGSO, it is that Taty may not have gotten to the ball first, and that's not a terrible argument. The DOGSO call is close. The foul call is not.

LOL
Petrescu what a dumb ***

he blew calls left and right that game and relied entirely too much on VAR. I would have been ok with it being a foul + yellow card. I wish they would make transcripts of these panel reviews available so we can actually understand the reasoning behind such decisions. It would help educate fans on these types of situations but also the refs seem to need re-educating as well.

The ref actually got the call right then. He called a yellow card and VAR suggested red.
I still think it’s a red. Player is away at goal and no one is getting to him.

I am surprised by the ruling. I get that people think it might not be a red, but it seems borderline to me, which is not enough to overturn it.

i agree. which is why i would love to be able to read a transcript of their discussion or an actual report with their reasoning.

PRO has released last week's roundup of VAR decisions and features the two incidents in the New England game. The Mitrita penalty was clearly correct. On the red card, they said a video review was correct to check for DOGSO, but they think the official should have reversed the call that there was a foul and rescinded the yellow. They said there was no foul on the play as this was a "natural coming together" of the two players.

We will have to wait for Friday to see their thoughts on the calls in the Toronto game.
