New England - Postmatch

First half was botched, but chocked that up to players not use to playing with each other. Berget's NYCFC MLS debut on turf which I'm sure he's not use to playing on, and getting his feet wet. But I expect more out of a self-proclaimed "Viking", he looks life Flóki, LOL.

But what boggles the mind is that Patrick Vieira did NOT make any substitutes when necessary. Why not add fresh legs and a fresh approach. He had at his disposal Tommy McNamara, Sands on the bench. Surprisingly we actually could've gotten three points after the sh*tty first-half. For Patrick Vieira not to make a sub until the 89th minute is unacceptable!

Personally I think PV want to see how these guys play together, but after the 70th minute. He got the jist, and he didn't pull the trigger regarding substitutes the could change the game in our favor.

I considered this game winnable at the end, I chock it up to POOR coaching.

I'm not entirely convinced PV thinks any of this is a bad thing. I'm starting to think he sees possession as possession regardless of the location on the field we are maintaining it in. As long as the other team is tiring themselves out chasing he's fine with it.
That, and the other benefit of possessions, however meaningless, is to rub the opponent the chances to attack. The less chances naturally lead to less scoring by opponents. Simple stats.

Yes and no. There are tons of teams that sacrifice possession for lethal counterattacks and end up winning matches that are statistically upsidedown.

What you mentioned is not mutually exclusive with what I said. In addition, if we pass around in our second half, hard for them to counterattack:)

Had to give you a like for the Floki reference alone. Not sure how many people will get it.

I was pretty surprised we didn’t sub on Lewis for Berget, as Jo looked gassed in the last 20 minutes. Maybe Patrick felt it was better to have him out there with his size to jump for long balls out of the back, but that’s about all he was able to do at that point.

The MLS digital guys have moved on to creating videos about how Toronto is going to make history by winning CCL. They won’t pay any attention to their MLS form until May.

They're probably right to do this. Only the playoffs matter
