Hey. Hey guys. If you hate it, it was never targeted for you. This is meant for kids and families. If you’re a hard core soccer sicko (which all of you are for being on a soccer forum) then it’s not meant to be for you. MLS does well with families so this is family friendly move. The only thing they missed on was calling her Midge the pidge. Other than that, kids will like Sky and adult will get a laugh out of Sky wearing Timberlands. Grumble that our mascot is adorable and funny looking, be happy that it’s fan originated idea, and We can finally be officially the pigeons. Damn it.

i'd be willing to bet that despite having an official pigeon (rock doves?) mascot, there will be plenty of "journalists" who will refer to us as the cityzens. Only person who has referred to us as the pigeons is Doyle as far as i know. Everyone else goes with "cityzens" or just "NYC".
I don't mind referring to us as NYC but "cityzens" has always made me cringe.
I appreciate Doyle calling us the Pigeons. Rock Dove is actually just a type of pigeon. They are the species found all over the city. From a personal standpoint, I just like the mouth feel of saying “Let’s go pigeons!” Vs “Let’s go NYC!” Or the dreaded “Let’s go NYCFC!” My mother in law who I bring to quite a few games (she’s great) loves to yell “Come on NYCFC!” and it always tweaks my ears that it’s just so long to say our abbreviation. So I can’t wait for “let’s go pigeons!” Or even better, I want the whole stadium just chanting “Pi-geons” the same way Toluca fans chanted “Dia-blos”

I don't expect this to be a very big part of game day experience for most.
The great thing about having a mascot is that you have something that you can send to schools and soccer clinics at parks that kids can engage with. Most kids won't know any of the bench players, and those events are awkward without a mascot and you can only schedule so many of them and only when the team is at home. You could theoretically have Sky Scraper at 10 parks and 5 birthday parties, and the grand opening of a dude wipes kiosk at the same time.

I was making fun of it earlier because I think it's funny, but honestly it's fine. It'll probably wave a flag or do something when we score, but it's fine. The design is a lot to look at, but it's fine. Doesn't bother me, but I reserve the right to make wisecracks about it. I hope the kids like it, because that's really all that's important in this sort of thing.

The giant floating pigeon that came out of nowhere last year makes a lot more sense now.
I think we have outdone the mother ship.
