NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

Info on him?

High probability to be our first homegrown signing, but is unlikely to happen for at least another year. Doesn't graduate high school until the spring of 2019, so that might be the projected date he joins full time if he foregoes college. If he goes to college, expect him to play with the Rough Riders during the summer.

So he's a Sophomore? Wow. Good on this kid to get a training camp invite. That's impressive.

I think this is the kid that went to Brunswick in Greenwich, CT.

what does it mean "existing club promoted into U12"? does that mean we took over a youth club and moved into the DA? or that NYCFC existed and now has a U12....just thrown off by that "promotion" wording

Yeah, that makes this very confusing. And what team was promoted to the U-18/19 league? Last year's U-15/16 team? That's a healthy jump, everyone will be 16 or 17 and playing against 18 and 19 year olds, unless we grab a few more from our affiliates.

Also worth mentioning that this is for the 2017/18 season, which starts next fall. Not this spring.

:unamused:
Did we not discuss this a few weeks ago? And the concensus was that we needed to make this happen ASAP and the club went about the system the wrong way.
Well they integrated other age groups and clearly it's not going to be a smooth transition to start. But it's there. Isn't that all we wanted?
Can we just for once be content? Not even happy, just content?

Sounds like Sands has played well. Let's just sign the damn kid

I believe we're following the Man City Academy style that everyone will play one age group above them. So our U14s are playing against U15s. Our U16s against U17s, etc.

Pretty sure it's as simple as just that a club with teams at other levels of USSDA were given a place in an age category in which they previously weren't represented.

And since everyone in the whole damn country does this, they all get to play the same age. Unintended consequences and shit.

BREAKING: CFG Academies will now play four year ahead of their age groups. The cutoff for the U18 squad will be individuals who are U14.

yea just the wording felt weird to me. just say awarded or registered new team

well we have an full academy now ....even if the kids will play in age group that is older than they are. dont think they will have brand new players for U18/19, they top team will "grow" into it.
