NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

The biggest issue with basketball and hockey is the amount of time it takes for UNION workers to tear down/prep the arena for each sport. One has special wooden floor and the other an iced surface and perimeter boards. That craps takes time (like YS between soccer and baseball games)

With soccer/concerts, they'd throw down tarps in areas to protect the grass and build a stage. That's pretty easy, especially if there's a way to wheel the base of the stage in like with super bowl entertainment.

Bingo

I just took a look at the average attendances in the NWSL last season. Can someone who understands the league and the team better tell me why Sky Blue get the lowest attendances in the league? I know they play in NJ not NYC, but surely there's enough around them to still at least field double what they pull, when you consider what other teams are getting?

Wow. Tough spot for him academically. Can't imagine that the parents are happy (of any of the players).

Will be interesting to see, if we aren't going to sign him, if he stays local and goes back to Brunswick or if he takes the route that Jack did and winds up at a Prep School.

Well...where does James Sands go now? The semester will end in the late spring. From there, it's the summer and the fall is spent training/playing the UC17 World Cup.

We have to sign him to a first team contract in the summer before the WC.

Wow yeah interesting to see what happens now. He may just go back to the academy and train with the 1st team. He may stay there for the semester and he'll be off for the summer so he can train with yhe club and not have school. We'll have until July to make a permanent decision.

Fart noise. No reason we shouldn't have signed him. So fucking stupid.

He'll crush it at the u17 World Cup. Really like him as a player. Hope he shakes out for Schalke/Wolfsburg/Dortmund.

Inconceivable, really.

I really can't fathom an Organizational reason why they wouldn't extend a contract. The salary is minimal. There is no cap hit to worry about.

I wonder if the parents of these kids knew the program was shutting down. He's only been there what? A year? He started HS at Brunswick.

Maybe the parents want him to finish school and go to college. Look at Harkes' kid or Morris even.

Who do I want to call stupid, our FO or his folks? It's either that or what I said about foreign interest.

Good question. It certainly sounded like the Club wanted to extend an offer. And then we heard nothing more.

We're all nuts. It's perfectly acceptable for the kid and family to say, I want to get my education before I go pro.

The issue there is that this kid is a top tier talent. He's a one of a kind American player. He can play right now. I don't think Morris was offered a contract at 16

Acceptable, but I don't understand it and don't think it's a very wise decision. I would lean toward the presumption that there is either an agreement in principle that he signs after the u17 World Cup or he's planning to go to Europe officially at 18. Maybe both. Because if you have an agreement in principle, you really don't have much at all.

How can he qualify for Europe? He doesn't have a foreign passport

I broke this down somewhere, but by the time the u17 WC ends, it'll be something like 9 months before he's 18. He can do what Gaines/McKinnie/Taitague all did and commute for a few week at a time until then. No big deal. That's why I thought it was critical we get it done this preseason.

Sorry. I still don't understand

Do homegrown salaries count against the cap? If not I hope they offer him enough so that his parents don't make him go to college right now.

They don't count. And we have a special $150k to add to the typical HG contract which could really make it worth his signature

How long can guys stay on an HG deal?
I believe it is subject to the length of the contract. 4 years is plenty of time to make a mark or not. And in theory there are more guys being tapped up behind you, so there has to be turnover and elevation to the senior roster slots.
