NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

Can you specifically say what you don't understand? I don't understand what you don't understsnd.

I'll start over. Sorry. To get into Europe, you need a passport from over there or a track record with your national team I thought?

Is it different for U-18?

How can he qualify for Europe? He doesn't have a foreign passport

That is just before 18. He will be able to work pretty much anywhere in the EU outside of the UK once he is 18. What some players have done is sign pre-contractual agreements where they join once they're 18. It also usually entails them training with the club's academy and playing in an unofficial youth matches. The most prominent example I can think of for the US is Joshua Perez at Fiorentina. He stayed in Europe from 16 to 18 for 6 months at a time, would come back to the states for a month, then go back to Fiorentina. He then signed an official pro contract at 18.

If it's not the UK (really, I should say England), work permits aren't nearly so difficult to come by. That's why Germany is the big draw. It suits Americans well culturally and is pretty much the number 2 league Americans watch. On top of that, it's the most progressive league in Europe in how it approaches the game (no coincidence that Garber is tight with their leadership) and most aggressive about wanting Americans to succeed there.

Per NYCFC's snapchat: Academy players, or players around that age, are at training with the first team and Vieira.
Except for or including the most important one and his brother? Aren't they both based in Florida?

Yes

What was the big announcement this week from MLS regarding Homegrowns and the Residency Program?

If they aren't there, then it seems the training sessions Sands was involved in can be used as a barometer for how the other players stack up/respond to the sessions.

I really hope we'll get to see an inside training video from this session. I just want to see the reactions from the kids playing with Villa, Pirlo, etc. and being coached by Vieira.

They gave him a video. SIGN HIM!

Two thoughts. First, it seems obvious the club is doing everything it can to woo this kid and his parents. The video, the invite to camp, the way Vieira was treating him in the video, they all show the team is making an all-out effort. While this makes it troubling that he hasn't signed it is also clear that he is fond of the team and has already made an emotial bond to it. He might go overseas if there's an opportunity, but if he signs or ever plays in the US he wants NYCFC.

Second, damn he's young. I know he's 16, and I saw videos of him playing. But sitting in the studio is a whole 'nother thing. Damn he's young.
