Unless the editing cut out the good plays by the Crew, which I'm sure it did, it really seems like the same passing-style that's working for the senior team is also shredding the academy's opponents. They were moving the ball pretty easily to final third.
I really hope the Club establishes a residency program. They could educate and train 100 kids a year and it would be the pinnacle of the US Academy system.
I can't see how they can get all the kids they want without it. Most moms aren't going to ship their 13 year olds 2.5 hours each way for practice.

100%. This should be done within 10 years of the club.
Exactly. It's the standard in the top academies around the world, there's no reason they shouldn't be aiming to install it in NYC.
Here's the video of the U12. One of the boys played with Fred Jr. this year (I think #11 but I can't tell for sure) and he's a great kid as well as a great player. Zero attitude -- a nice kid to everyone.
I agree with the idea, but disagree with your statement about most moms. Check out this year's U14 team, which was based at St. Johns -- Bronx, West Babylon, Harrison NJ, Oradell NJ, Mamaroneck, Armonk, etc. These kids are all coming from significant distance.
One of my son's teammates this year (not the one referenced above) made it to the last cut for NYCFC U12 next year. His family figured that paying for an Uber or black car from Westchester was a small price to pay and that's before accounting for the $3-4k saved by playing for a free academy vs pay-for-play.
I'm not saying all won't do it, but some won't.
I bet there was another kid they wanted whose parents said, nah, he can stay at Brunswick. I'm not driving to St John's.

At some point, the players in these academies that can go pro should opt to join an MLS academy instead and play the one full year so they can be signed as a homegrown. Unless they opt for college then the SuperDraft.

Everton FC Westchester's JJ Jimenez, who will join NYCFC's U-19s as a player this coming season, was also named to the Eastern Conference Best XI for his performances this season. The midfielder made 24 starts for his club, scoring seven goals.
