NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

I think it's an EU thing.

It's an EU thing. In the EU the legal working age is 16. If you sign a player before that, you can't technically employ them, only sign them on scholarship papers, and you are only allowed to sign someone on scholarship papers if they are deemed to have changed countries because their parents were economic migrants. That means they have to show that they are living near the club in question and are in employment in that country. Obviously this could be a bit awkward for Claudio.

Make that 4.
Also, gotta love the long island-accent lady yelling "get it out of there... my god!" the entire time

Apparently they only play 60 minutes. Final score...

Atletico Madrid 7
NYCFC 0

I guess all our talent is in the U18/19 or U16/17 teams.

That being said we do play a year up so our 12s and 13s are playing against their 14s.

I guess their coach didn’t know what to do with the high press. Did PV leave someone behind?

This puts me in mind of something I hadn’t considered.

A loan of Sands is a tricky endeavor. He’s still a kid - not 18 - and so you have to be really careful to make sure he is going into a good situation. This is exactly that. The loan expires at the end of the summer, and he is going to be playing for a coach, Hackworth, who has already looked after him for other spells.

I guess this confirms Gio Reyna leaving for Europe.

And maybe Justin Haak going to Europe soon.

Ball is in Haak’s Court. Has been
Any kid and their parents should be concerned with the utter lack of playing time HG players get with our club. We have a highly rated youth system and we’re gonna lose the majority because they see Sands and Scally aren’t getting any minutes even when the team is depleted. As much as I wanted Gio, I want Haak on the team more, because we need a skilled midfielder, but if he’s worried about getting time before TMac, which is a valid concern, then by all means go elsewhere so his growth isn’t permanently stunted. He’s a future MNT player provided he is playing and not sitting behind older less skilled players.

I don’t know that his ceiling is that high, but Gyasi Zardes keeps getting call ups so who the hell knows.

Your point is a good one though.

Not exactly NYCFC Academy related, but check out where junior and I are headed next week:

http://www.madridfootballcupboys.com/

His team, White Plains Academy, is in Group G and playing Atletico, Krasnodar and a team from Sweden.

Some serious horsepower n the other groups.

Wish us luck!
Excellent stuff.

Dude, your junior and my junior are on totally different levels of the Westchester County travel team pecking order!*
Good luck with the tourney.

* - Gotham junior #2 (also a Fred) starts U6 tomorrow, so there is still hope.

His coach has made it clear that scoring even a single goal in the group stage would be an amazing accomplishment...

NYCFC wasn't even in the running for Will Vint, a youth team star that would be playing for ManU's u18's if not for a visa issue, because the club doesn't have a USL team for him to play on. He chose Atlanta - with KC & *even* Philly the other possibilities he was looking at.

Not saying he would have definitely chosen NYCFC if the USL team was in place, but to not be in the running to nab a kid that had the choice of where he wanted to go, with a father rich in experience & knowledge having been the academy director for Everton, is damning. No USL team to get minutes plus a history of not playing the kids, and yet having an academy team highly regarded in MLS with the recent Cup win, regular YNT callups, and a kid poached by Dortmund.

Signing him to a non-pro contract is a waste of money (assuming that’s what this was). Why pay to train a kid who clearly wants to play abroad, knowing there will be no money incoming when he leaves?
