NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

I'm going to disagree with you. Aficionados of the game and people interested in NYCFC as a whole should be able to watch the Academy games. It's the parents who should not leverage their kids and ultimately drive them to satisfy their old dreams. Should give the child the freedom to decide how he/she would like to pursue the game.

It was an awesome feeling when fans showed up to watch my team's games. I don't see anything wrong with NYCFC fans attending NYCFC academy games. In Europe they broadcast academy games on TV and the stadium has more fans than a D1 soccer game.

Grown men going to watch some kid that they have no relationship with is odd and a pervy.
"Aficionados" of beautiful women who go to kids beauty contests are usually pervs

In fairness, kids' beauty contests are actually about kids trying to make themselves look pretty - they may be too young to be sexualised (or they certainly should be) but it's essentially a prepubescent lead-up to the adult version which is very much about being sexually appealing. Youth football is about kids playing football, not practising at making themselves look hot. It's still a contentious issue, but only because today's culture has engendered an atmosphere of suspicion about anyone doing anything with kids that they aren't related to. If that weren't an issue, attending a youth football game would be a non-issue, whereas attending a youth beauty pageant would still be a bit weird.

Saw him Sunday. He's small too. Nice kid. Wonderful family. I hope the kid crushes it out there.

The only place I really saw that NYCFC II rumor was on @NYCFCWATCH, but I would imagine with the trend of the top tier MLS organization (Galaxy, Sounders, Red Bulls) going the USL route that it will eventually happen. I guess it depends on where they see the USL team in the organization. If they look at it as a place to groom young homegrown players, it maybe awhile.

If they are serious about the academy, a U23 PDL team is going to be essential as well. When some of our academy players go to college, they can play on our U23 PDL team during the summer and as long as there are no pros on our team, they can keep their NCAA eligibility. It also fulfills the training requirements to keep their homegrown status.

the thing about USL is i thought that MLS had some given some sort of deadline to its teams have their own team in USL in a certain amount of years ( i cant remember if it was 3 years or so) so thats why i asked about it.

about PDL, do MLS really go that route? i think i only seen Chicago/ RB and Seattle of top of my head that have teams. i assume if its not academy player they get a whole bunch of random college players to play for their team to fill roster spots?

MLS had a deadline of 2016 for all teams to have linked up with a USL team. There's no obligation to actually own and operate a team, ever, if clubs don't want to. The fact that most are deciding to anyway for financial reasons is beside the point.

PDL is really a glorified summer league, and yes they will fill the roster with college players. DC, Portland, Toronto, Orlando, and Vancouver had/have u23 teams.
