Nycfc Acquire Cdm Federico Bravo On Loan From Boca Juniors [FINALLY confirmed p13]

Whoa whoa whoa...... Calle was the epitome of a Homeless Journeyman in that he was constantly loaned out by his home club for 4 straight years to 3 different teams - that's 4 years with only 26 appearances. His home team knew he wasn't any good and his temporary teams figured it out too.

In less than half that time, Bravo has gotten 34 games with his home club Boca, which is one of the absolute best teams in the Americas and produces talent like few others.
He has promising talent but seemed to have been rushed to the first team.

I'm guessing Vieira sees him as a prospect he can likely get the most out of now that he's a bit older.

I should have been clearer that I wasn't suggesting he had the talent and commitment of Calle, just that the situations are similar.

With 11 slots NYCFC would be among the most if not the most int'l slots per club in MLS. Definitely the most in use.

How much GAM or TAM could we possibly have?

Orlando and Vancouver each are using 11.

I would rather see us trade a future draft pick for an international spot if we know we can use the int'l spot on Bravo. I have more hope Bravo is a contributor than an NCAA player.

Gotcha! They were/are both loans with a $1M buy-on..... hopefully Bravo is actually worth that price and his play convinces us to pull the trigger.

I read that the number of International spots MLS will have to use in the coming years is going to be higher due to the dilution of the American player pool once all of the new teams are added. Perhaps MLS is just phasing them in sooner?

I hope not. Developing Americans is super important, and I hope we don't lose focus on that. Eight per team is plenty.

I would be fine with eliminating the expansion draft and giving expansion teams extra spots, but those extra spots should expire. Even going extreme by giving expansion teams 12 spots, with one expiring each year until they are down to the standard 8.

You could be right. MLS hasn't increased the number of international spots since 2008 when there were only 13 teams. Giving each team 9 instead of 8 wouldn't have much of an impact when there are 7 (soon to be 9) more rosters to fill with American players in 2016.

Definitely true! Even with the slots, there isn't a rule that they have to be used. Would be nice if teams, especially those with successful academies, found it more beneficial not to use the spots because their American players outplayed the international trialists. Keep the spots in their back pockets as a transferable commodity, but have American that beat-out/earn the roster spots.

id agree but keep in mind they are focusing on growing their academy... they will come ....in a few years...and in the meantime anyone worth getting is in a high salary unless we get another mikey who was let go from a strong team like SKC

Entirely correct. By next season, the number of roster spots will have gone up by over 69% in 9 years. There is no way the number of professional quality American players has done the same.

i never had this...is there a place in nyc that has real authentic mate to try?
I am not sure. Probably in queens or neighborhood that have Argentinians restaurants. In midtown (well around the city in general) they have these niches cafe places that sell it, but probably dont have the cool fancy straw to drink from it, or the special cup (which i think is the only proper way to drink it)

It is the only proper way to drink it!

You can pick it up in a few places in Jackson Heights, though I don't know if any serve it.

Hey! Hold on Ulrich. Take it easy on the Gator. Don't you know he's a little sleep deprived today? Check the other threads and be kind to Gotham on his big day. :)

Bravo is a case of a player that was brought up to the first team too soon. Showed lots of promise in the academy but couldn't handle the pressure of playing consistently for one of the 2 biggest clubs in Argentina. I think his time here will do him lots of good.
