NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

It's tough to be the best on the field when Aguero and DiMaria are your u20 teammates (among others). Argentina won the U20cup the year Maxi played in it (2007), so all of his teammates were exceptional.

I'm saying, no matter where he has played - international, Italy, Argentina, Mexico - he has never been the best player on the field.

He's damn sure been the most important for us for large stretches of games.

I think he's a very, very good player. And his work rate paired with skill level is certainly not something that is that easy to find.

He's obviously not on the same level, and hopefully he's more durable, but he's easily our Coutinho.

Complain about the mechanisms, but downplaying his contributions makes you seem a poorer judge of talent than I believe you are.

I was thinking about comparisons too. I would go for a Mkhi or Lallana or maybe even a Silva. He just doesn't have that cannon. But the way he occupies or finds passes in that space, a split second before the defense vacates it, the turn into and yet out of trouble, because let's be clear, he is not equipped to handle any kind of trouble - that's the magic.

You really think that? If I had to rank our MVPs this season, I would go Villa, Ring, Chanot, Harrison, Johnson before Maxi.

Listen, I'm a big fan of his. I just think he's amplified other issues on our roster. If we get the Pirlo issue fixed, I feel better. If we don't, I think we waste another season of Villa and Harrison on the roster.

I've said I will give him the entire season to make a final judgement. I think, to this point, he's been a complimentary player and not a star.

Silva or whatever. I basically used Coutinho because Liverpool looks so toothless without him. That's the comparison I was getting at. So anyone who relates that idea, pick them. That's the comparison. Not playing style, but impact.

Dominating in the U20 World Cup doesn't "definitely" mean much. Otherwise Maxi Moralez would be playing for Man City and not us right now.
He was a good player for that squad but Aguero and Di Maria were the only ones who dominated on that squad.

For Falastur Falastur and other Man City folks - what is the plan with Patrick Roberts?

Not sure. There's a lot of talk on the Celtic side about wanting to buy him but nothing coming out of Manchester. My gut feeling is right now that Pep won't feel like he's ready and will want him to go out on another loan to a "higher" European side (maybe to Girona now that they look odds-on to be promoted to La Liga) in order to earn his place at City, where he will have plenty of competition for his position anyway. If he goes anywhere else it'll likely be to force a permanent move if he feels like he's never going to get a serious opportunity in Manchester.

What about Shay Facey as a CDM/utility defender? I was looking at his stats and it seems like he didn't get alot of playing time at either loan spell that he has been on since he left us. Could be nostalgia but he seemed decent passing the ball, keep possession, intercepting, and tackling. Just seems to small for a CB.

Thank you. My dream would be to have him on a short term loan this summer and fall but he's due for greater things.

I can't see how Celtic can afford him. Rodgers wants him back on loan for next season but Man City paid 10.5 Million for him. They won't want to take a hit unless he forces the move. He finished the season in fantastic form. Him on the right, Harrison on the left, Villa in the middle. Fantastic.

You don't think he's above a replacement player (aka Mikey Lopez)?

It's been a while but I don't recall seeing signs that he has the athleticism or passing ability to play in the midfield. He did seem decent on ball as a CB but I remember him being fairly subpar when he played LB and tried to go forward.

Not that we're linked, but Navas is available for free this summer. Wonder if an MLS team will go after him.

There's been stories in the past about him struggling with being home sick. Even rumors that he was reluctant to go to the EPL because it was too far from home. Maybe his time at city have resolved those issues but MLS would be an even bigger leap from home, I wonder if he'd even entertain it.
