You think NYCFC will be about a 3-4-2-1 in the future?? Interesting setup, never really thought about that kind of formation before, at least with NYCFC.
A tidbit to pick your brain, Midas Mulligan , who do you think is still on the team in 2 years, and still making an impact??
Without factoring into unknown contract lengths, I would say odds of still being on the team in 2019 are about as follows:
Matarrita - 50% - Wants to play in Europe, but isn't necessarily destroying the competition here
Chanot - 75% - He's here because his wife works at the UN. They might stay.
Callens - 75% - Should be a pretty solid MLSer for a number of years
Herrera - 33% - He's probably bigger than MLS
Ring - 70% - I don't buy the speculation he is going to bolt back to Europe first chance. He chose to come here, didn't he?
Wallace - 75% - As long as he's performing, I think we'll keep him around at reasonable salary levels
Harrison - 66% - I think there's a decent chance he sticks around as long as we hope he does, but that's not guaranteed
Villa - 95% - 2019 could be his farewell tour. Unless he drops off in a big way, he's got the DP spot as long as he wants it.
Herrera = another year and maybe through end of 2018 season.
Chanot = think he's a lifer and potential captain.
Callens = likely to be here a long time, too
Wallace = Yes. Had his dalliances elsewhere. He's home now - 4 hours from where he grew up, on decent money, playing great, no longer at an attractive age for buyers. I think allocation money will keep up with his presumed rising cost.
Harrison = Sbr has it about right on his 66%. I might be a little heavier lean towards staying, maybe 73.5%. Like Wallace on the $ front. If he stays here, I think he'd be eligible to represent the US in 2022. He'd still be only 25, and with that presumed resume, could go straight to PL/Bundes team without nearly the bullshit. Makes sense for him to enjoy his football and role for this club until then rather than toil in championship/relegation fodder clubs to what end?
Maxi = yes, unless we sell him, which I rate the odds of as fairly low over the next 2 year.. So he'll still be contributing either way.
Johnson = Will be here unless he shockingly takes over the US spot. So I think he'll be here. He's already 28. Free agency might come into play?
Villa = fully agree with Sbr
Brillant = no, too much money for a backup who has had too many big mistakes. He goes when we have a younger back-up option.
Lewis = think he'll be competing for a starter role or own it if Jack moves to the 10 role.
Ring = I think he'll stay, although slightly less sure than about Chanot.
Matarrita = total toss-up, possibly dependent on his 2018 WC performance given his rash of injuries. Club might be wise to postpone his sale until after that.
White, Allen = may be on the squad as cheap depth.
Shelton = I just don't see it at this point, but maybe as depth if Jack did move.[/S]
