NYCFC v Philly Postmatch

I want to say I understand PV here. We did "dominate" the second half, sorta, but they had a 2 goal cushion by then.

When the game was 0-0 in the first half and the game was in doubt, they dominated us without question. They could have scored 2 or 3 more, too.

I put more stock into the performances of teams when the game is still in doubt compared to when there's a cushion.

And people still want Casillas

Oh snap
Over Calamity Saunders - any day of the year! Forget about the defenders' marking, Saunders was out of position twice tonight on the goals. The first one he was in front of the Goal post with no way to cover any of the net behind him if a pass was made (which it was). The second goal he came off his line and didn't follow through so he was left in no-man's land with the net open. He either had to stay on his line and play the shot while trusting his teammates or he had to clear the ball - he chose neither.

I'm tired of having a keeper that instinctually is no better than the field mouse that crawls in front of the snake.

Lurch baby start lurch for a few games then if he fails then you can all cream over Casillas in the summer trying to get him as a DP

In other words PV is saying we create more chsnces and we dont score due to the other keeper making a save or hitting the post the the keeper again making saves meanwhile he is saying we let them have one or two chsnces and saunders is complete shit. But yet he continues to start him SMH

Believe in lurch

I've been complaining about Saunders for a year, back when he was the fans' hero. And while I find the endless 'Everything is Grabavoy/Lampard/Saunders fault' player witch-hunts on here tedious, I'm glad people are wising up to his shortcomings.

But the idea that replacing Saunders fixes this team? Haha. Ok! I would be ECSTATIC if he was our biggest problem. You don't turn a team of whipping boys into playoff material by switching out the goalkeeper.

As soon as JK stood up for himself and his beliefs as a soccer manager/coach when he clearly stated he didnt want Pirlo. And then calling him out after the MTL game at home. The writing was on the wall.
I don't know the specifics of what your talking about? Sounds Juicy! Nor do i know what MTL stands for? I want to know more about what your talking about. Please! When My Andrea had that first press conference with JK They Looked Very Uncomfortable with each other!! I sensed that JK was not at all happy from the start. I hope you see this and reply. Thanks!

I thought Mendoza and Shelton both had very good games. Shelton's decision making still has a lot of room to improve but his dribbling today was miles better than anything we have seen from him to date. I was disappointed to see Mendoza starting but after his performance today I wouldn't mind seeing him do so again vs Montreal. Poku is lost without the ball at his feet, which I guess we all knew already but somehow it seemed even more apparent than usual. Anyone who chants "We want Poku" this week within shouting distance of my seat is going to get an earful.

Lopez was dreadful and I have no idea why PV left him in as long as he did - I half expected Mix to come on for him at the half.

I thought Hernandez and Brillant were actually not awful and our defensive problems may have come more from Matarrita roaming forward and poor positioning from Lopez and to a lesser extent Bravo, but I'd be curious to hear what others think about that.

Interesting that PV said leaving Pirlo out was not due to having three games in one week. Last week I said that I thought our best midfield in a 4-3-3 would be Pirlo-Bravo-Mix. But Bravo-Mix-Lampard could be interesting too. Even Bravo-Lopez-Lampard would be an improvement on what we saw today. In other words, I missed Lampard today, which was not a thought I've had in awhile.

I feel like I missed something. Other than Lasker Lasker no one is mentioning Pirlo's absence. Why wasn't he there? PV decision? Was there any explanation? When did it happen?

Not saying I think he should have been in or would have made a difference, but I find his absence and our collective ignoring of it pretty noteworthy.

Did the game seen remarkably different without pirlo in there? Not to me. Ergo, bravo, even with his woeful passing at times, is at least an even swap for pirlo, maybe an improvement due to his playing defense.

I have to disagree on fixing Saunders and fixing the team. His crappy kick started the run that ended with the second goal. He does that all the time. Kicks to the opposition. I can almost guarantee that if we get rid of that constant error, we will improve immediately.

Fire Vieira.
To those now calling for firing PV.

Please stop. It's just ridiculous. We can't be that club.

JK was a good firing. Not because he lost games. Because he lost his team. By season end the players in the locker room didn't want to play for him. That's almost impossible to recover, especially for a coach who routinely threw his own players under the bus while exalting and exonerating himself and his coaching staff, all of which ultimately happened around August/September.

It is now April. PV is still behind his players, and they seem to be behind him. Suggesting that after 7 games we should make a coaching switch is foolish (trying to be nice with my language). Last year we got our second win in our 14th game. I'm willing to take the under for this year. So let's kill the fire PV talk.

I've been too pissed about Saunders starting to comment on Pirlo. But since you asked....

Three games in 8 days is maybe a bit more than Pirlo can handle - he's played every game so far. Or maybe he has a late ding that came after the injury report or woke up sick? Or maybe PV is making a point about last game with the lack of energy in the MIdfield? Lots of possibilities. Personally, I think he needed a rest with two home games coming up.

I mean, sure. I thought so too. It would certainly make sense, although sitting him Wednesday might make more sense. But Vieira said in his postgame that the decision to leave Pirlo out of the squad was his (that is, Vieira's - meaning not an injury) and that it did not have to do with playing three games in a week.

Vieira has also said in the past that Lampard was expected back soon. I'm not sure I believe anything the team says about player ability, selection, or injury.

At least one thing has been consistent this season, more fights off the field than goals on it. Not a good look on either front.

Can we just retire the City Blue jersey now? It's a fcking cursed kit.

If any statistician sleuths are bored and want to research it, I'd love to know what our all-time record is in it compared to the secondary jersey (black and hypno-onion combined).

After going on a media blackout for this game because of the second sedar, I came back home to turn on my recording on YES. The match was supposed to start at 5 PM according to every possible advertising of this game. I set my recording 5 minutes early and run 2 hours late just in case of any extra inning of Yankees baseball. So my recording starting at 4:55 starts 30 seconds into the game. What the fuck? That being said and aside from that point, there wasn't any reason to spend 2 hours watching the rest of the match. This was total and complete garbage by NYCFC. Defense sucked. Midfield sucked. Offense sucked. Saunders is as shitty as Puerto Rico's bond situation. Sure, we created chances but we couldn't finish. But aside from Villa's crossbar shot, I couldn't consider any of the other chances as true goal scoring opportunities.

I will say it again from the nth time since last season. Start EIRIK MOTHERFUCKING JOHANSEN. I can't understand Ian Joy saying that Saunders saved NYCFC last season. Any decent goalie can stop shots. It's called hand-eye coordination and timing. A goalie is the core of the defense of any team and Saunders is lacking that understanding and responsibility. The Start Eirik movement isn't that Eirik necessarily is the better goalkeeper, it's that Saunders doesn't deserve another start, ever. Today, Saunders was completely out of position on the Sapong goal. The first goal, I don't even know what happened. Utterly garbage. If we're playing from the back, Saunders cannot be our goalie. And nobody outside of this forum is talking about it. It's never in Vieira's press conference. It's never on the #askNYCFC. It's driving me insane.

Unless there is significant changes in the style of play of this team and the results, we have to employ the nuclear option and completely blow up this roster. No more Pirlo. No more Lampard. No more Mix. Yeah, even no more Mix. Anybody who has a contract over $100K deserves to be considered to be cut. I don't know about MLS offseason roster rules enough but we need a new team. We don't need new players filling in gaps, we need a new roster for Vieira's 4-3-3 approach to the game. I don't think anyone can think of a formation with the players on this roster that will work and get 3 points consistently.

We have Villa, Lampard, and Pirlo and we're one of the worst teams in MLS. I don't expect us to be favored to win any game the rest of the season. The playoffs, I'm not even thinking about it. October 23 is our last game. Happy Passover.

We play 3 games in 8 days. If you have to rest him for a day, doesn't this game make alot of sense when we can run the W-M at Yankee Stadium?

Yeah that was the general consensus around me- verbal instigation from Philly (btw not sons of Ben they were perfectly fine), verbal retaliation from our fans, verbal escalation from them and then throwing shit from us and then from them. So fucking stupid. I'm fine with dudes who don't know how to back down from a dumb situation getting banned. It was really fun until it stopped being fun at all. We left around the 86th just to make sure we were safe.

I wasn't within range to hear what was said but it did look like our supporters had stolen one of the large philly drums, brought it back to our away section and we're tuanting them with it. This lets steal other supporters things game is stupid and needs to stop. That said some of the philly fans lived up to their rep of being total a holes. After not doing anything to draw attention to myself all game other than having our jersey on and having friendly conversations with a number of Philly fans around me I still got two water bottles thrown at me on my way out. They apparently still act like a holes even when they win. Can't imagine what my trip out of the stadium would have been like had we come back and won.

I think it would be bad to fire PV, too.

That said, you have to be a total moron to call for the firing of a coach after an average expansion season and yet...

Also, was there ever any substantial evidence that Kreis lost the team or just clashed too hard with his bosses above?

That film strongly suggested the latter to be the case.
