We've learned one thing from this month-long PirloWatch... that the soccer media, and all their sources, don't know shit. Seriously. Who the fuck are these people, and where are they getting their info from? Everyday we read that he's going to sign the next week, or next day, or he's not signing, no chance, or he is now signing, or that Juve sent over the contract, or that his kids enrolled in NYC schools.
I've followed the rumor mill for baseball for a long time, and they are much more accurate with this stuff. The soccer media is all over the place.
It's not an MLS thing. It's even worse in Europe. This is mild in comparison. Pirlo is coming. Have no fearYeah it's interesting. I think a lot of it has to do with how young the league is and the size of the viewership. Few people are making money reporting on MLS, while there a high numbers of professional reporters making a living reporting on MLB, NBA and NFL. I think the same misinformation exists in an around the front office/agent player community of those leagues but the reporters are established enough to filter if for the public by knowing who to trust and who is full of it. They also have reputations to protect.
The MLS media is filled with ambitious armature and semi-pro "reporters" trying to get noticed. They have few to no sources and are trying anything to get their name out there so they report anything and everything they hear. The next level down are the repeaters, those with no connections but still trying to get their name out in the hopes of getting a connection who just twist and repeat the information make things even worse. Hopefully at the game grows some professional reputable reporters will emerge and we will have people who we know are fairly trust worthy in the information they provide.
I'm closer to finding Mendoza than I am to there. But good tip, nonetheless. If you're going to the beach, don't go in the water!

1) They're intentionally "leaking" information because they want to hype it up as much as possible. (well done)
This is absolutely nothing compared to the crap media speculations in Europe, South America, Africa and everywhere else...

The problem is, it's easy to pass info along on Social Media and most people believe everything they read, or I should say, want to. But the biggest issue is there are too many people pretending to have inside info, their own sources and know the uncle's neighbor's sister of someone with the team. It's bogus. This hasn't been going on for over a month cause if "hype". Pirlo is not a free agent, he's under contract with another team. All parties involved all want the best for themselves and that complicates things. He's obviously coming here. The player page wasn't a hack. Until I see it from Pirlo, Juve or NYCFC, I don't believe any of these hacks though. It's just not the little guys either, even the big names have mucked up every prediction and announcement. It's actually quite comical. I just see Pirlo in my mind, drinking his wine, saying to himself IDGAF. The only positive is that this has created some very funny, clever posts and some fun banter amongst us all.
P.S. The latest I heard was they were going to announce him at the Macy's Fireworks Saturday.
NYCFC has made a lot of their announcements at 4pm
My honest opinion is that NYCFC have no idea what the hell they want to do in terms of this announcement.
A lot of people with established reputations, Stefan Bondy, Grant Wahl, Gazetta Dello Sport etc; have said multiples times that it was imminent.
No way these guys are just pulling this out of nowhere. Someone (likely within the club) is telling them these things and then it's just not happening. Clearly they've had intentions to do it in the past, look at the player page, or the t-shirt page, but then they either changed their minds or someone higher up told them not to.
It's a done deal by most accounts, DiMarzio reported it was done on Juventus' end yesterday. They've shown him in the damn suite at the stadium two games in a row. It's only one of four things in my mind holding up this announcement:
1) They're intentionally "leaking" information because they want to hype it up as much as possible. (well done)
2) Something serious is holding up the contract.
3) CFG own stock in anti anxiety meds and want to drive up the price by making us all buy them.
4) They want to see what happens with this "core DP"
Ok it's probably #1, since everyone and their mother seems to be reporting the deal is done. At this point if it doesn't happen this week it makes the most sense to announce it July 13 so they have two whole weeks of hype to sell out the Orlando game on July 26. But that, like everything else it seems, is pure conjecture and god forbid the team did something that made sense.
That's the end of my rant.
TL;DR - The club doesn't know when they want to announce it. They were probably going to do it in the past but now want to hype up a game and use Pirlo to sell tickets. I'm also very mad.
Far more likely it's either Juve holding something up on their end or perhaps more probably his agent is haggling on the last couple of terms. There's no logical reason for NYCFC to wait for a better marketing opportunity to announce the move. That only works if you have a major event such as a shirt release or somesuch due in the next couple of games. Besides, if he'd signed and they were just trying to hide it then he'd be in training. Players don't sign contracts and then go on a bit of a holiday.
Pirlo does what he wants.Besides, if he'd signed and they were just trying to hide it then he'd be in training. Players don't sign contracts and then go on a bit of a holiday.
I think it's this option, except probably a smaller thing rather than a bigger thing. And even if there's the tiniest holdup that means they can't announce it yet.2) Something serious is holding up the contract.
