Official: Pirlo Signs With Nycfc... Soon?

Was listening to the Blue City Radio podcast today and thesauerchise thesauerchise pointed out that we've only given up as many goals as New England, but they've scored 18 and we've only scored half as many, tied with Montreal at 9 and they've only played 7 games to our 12
I actually did a triple take when I saw and read that. It is really telling. The defense isn't great but the biggest issue is the lack of quality chances.

Hopefully this is just posturing...but it doesn't look good. Sucks.

"It is added that Liverpool have already held talks with Pirlo's agent and are now set to complete a deal."

If there's one thing I've learned, the English press are the worst when it comes to this stuff, especially when it concerns Italian players or players in Serie A. It's like they write things just to fill in the space.

If you want a reliable source, go to Di Marzio's site or follow some of his guys, their record is excellent. So far they've denied the Pirlo moving to England stories and have admitted that he could go to MLS. Pirlo prefers NYC to England, and has even stated this publicly.

Pirlo would completely change the complexion of this team. There's really not a better candidate for "aging ringer who saves a MLS season." He's an absolutely archetypal fit for the Beckerman role in the Kreis 4-4-2. I can't think of two attainable players that would help this team more than Pirlo, and both would be a stretch.

Yes, yes, yes, this. Being totally blunt, thinking we need a DP defender requires a fundamental misunderstanding of how to win MLS matches.
However, a deep lying playmaker like Pirlo both organizes the defense and improves the attack. He makes everyone on the field more effective.
I agree, out of all our faults, I think the biggest improvement would be made by someone who can make that first pass out of the back to transition from defense to attack. Everything else falls into place if we stop those turnovers. That means upgrading either CB spot or CDM.

thesauerchise thesauerchise blew my mind with that stat.

Edit: However, the goals given up stat is slightly misleading since Saunders has saved multiple sure goals. RB should have had at least 2 more, And almost every game we give up multiple breakaways that we've been lucky to have spiderman in net.

That's a fair point, I would have to look at expected goals stat to see where we could be.

The longer it goes without an announcement the more likely I think dp3 is Pirlo. Most players seasons are done by now and would have been announced. Pirlo still has the cl final to play and probably doesn't want an announcement to be a distraction. Or at least this is what I like to tell myself.

The British press thought Del piero was going to Liverpool as well, then he came here to Australia with Sydney FC.

and Pirlo loves NYC.

Ignore anything from the English press. Particularly from papers like The Sun, The Star, The Mirror, The Daily Mail, The Express, The People and The Metro.
