Official: Pirlo Signs With Nycfc

And away we go ...

For the record, (and for maybe the last time) it was around May 28 that someone posted here that the bookies had NYC as the favorite to land Pirlo. On May 30 I brought this to YS. It's been a long 5 1/2 weeks. I believe it will be worth it. Can't wait to see him on our pitch.

Thanks to all on the forum for sharing this rollercoaster ride.

I remember seeing you (I'm in 133) and snapping a photo. It was the first I really heard about the possiblity. What a journey. Congrats on the premonition.

What's incredible is that legends like Villa, Pirlo, Lampard all bring interest for others. Imagine bringing in stars from around the world to woo them into signing with NYCFC next fall and having them escorted around with those three?

The press release says that he "joins the Club on July 21 and will be available for selection immediately following that." Will he be practicing before July 21? If not, will he play July 26 v. Orlando anyway?

Hard to imagine that a guy who relies so much on positional awareness will be ready after five days of practice to know where guys make their preferred runs.

I believe the stuff I've read said that he'll join the team as soon as his work permit is arranged.

Yeah, well our guys don't even know how to make runs, let alone have preferred runs...regardless a blind-folded Pirlo may be an upgrade to our passing from the back. In all seriousness, let him learn in game. He should be able to be as a creative as he wants. It will be fun watching 3 big time players with different nationalities and playing styles learn each others game.

Juve is a very classy club...yes this was posted in the old thread...but IDC...he's our "Maestro" now.

Our player, our team is trending hardcore in Twitter..gotta love it.

We need to do the call and response chant for goals now. The end of the video gave me goosebumps

Villa makes some fine runs, and I think Mullins is better at it than people give him credit for.

He'll be a massive improvement. I just think that people expecting immediate fireworks are likely to be disappointed - it'll take him a few games to get up to speed, but once he does, *look out*.

Oh I agree...the passive fans will be expecting Pirlo to come in spraying the ball all over the place, getting assist after assist. I'm ok with him learning his teammates on the pitch...I think the biggest adjustment is going to be with the league. A lot of MLS teams play this physical, manic style and they may be a bigger learning curve for him defensively than offensively. I am sure there will be some wise ass players in the league that will try and take him down too.

Villa sure does and I'd say Mix. We know Lampard is good with the late runs and I have to imagine Angelino and Iraola will .

Hard to imagine that a guy with his level of game knowledge and experience playing for both club and country wouldn't step in and be a massive upgrade even if he joined the team at noon on the 26th.

If defense is the concern, pair him with AJ in a 4-2-3-1. But get him on the field.
