Arguably the best first season for a head coach in NYCFC history. 5th in the regular season, Eastern Conference finalist.

Only other argument is Dome in 2019 (first full season). 1st in the regular season, Eastern Conference semifinalist.
I think you can at least make a case for Vieira. In fact I'd award it to him.
17 more points.
+14 swing in GD.
+6 Standings jump.
He did hurt the playoffs by playing safe in Game 1.

I'm not giving Dome first year credit for 2019 when he destroyed 2018 while coaching more than half the season.
0.39 PPG drop from Vieira's record in the first 15 games.
Won just 1.00 PPG over the final 13 games of his 19 games.

Pascal added 6 points, most of it after arguably the club's best midseason offensive addition. He also moved up 1 GD and 1 place in the standings and 1 playoff round.

FWIW, if we are only judging first seasons, Cushing also took his team to the ECF. Finished 3rd in the East and 5th overall. Earned 29 points in 21 matches for 1.38 PPG. Granted that was a drop-off from the 2.0 PPG the team had before he was named. But that was also while losing Taty and receiving as replacement one month later ... Pellegrini. Thanks a bunch David Lee.

I thought about that. Won Campeones Cup too, even if it's just one game.
ETA: I just looked it up. I forgot he coached 21 games of the season. It's still a hard season to judge. Parks was unavailable for 70-80% of them. Nick started slow then had a 4 game win streak before Taty left. Then he won just 5 points in the next 10, which is poor even considering. But then he won Campeones and finished the season with 3 straight wins before having the best playoff run outside of 2021 to that point.

I am talking the first full season in charge. So Kreis 2015, Vieira 2016, Dome 2019, Deila 2020, Cushing 2023, Jansen 2025.

I think I follow the 22nd Amendment rule. If you take over during a season and serve more than half of it, it counts as your first. But everyone is free to do as they please.

Forgot about Campeones. Like you said, just 1 game, but it is a trophy. Also notched 2 wins against NJ.
