Philly Postmatch

Idk. I noticed that too. I'm a few feet from the RF foul pole corner flag. The heavier set cop had his hand on his piece too. Dude was giving me a death stare for some reason.
We gave him a heads up you were up to no good and dangerous. I believe the name "serial naked streaker" might have been tossed around.

Repeating the point, but our coach can't sub. And mls refs suck. We won, sluts. I'll take it. One day...we may have a real football team.

I agree Midas. When I saw White about to come on I thought Hernandez was coming off, which would have made sense. However, unsurprisingly he took TMAC off and the die was cast for our seocnd half performance. Quite a few of the guys who watched the EDS over here, were very critical of his substitutions. Hopefully he learns before it is too late

Friend of mine pointed out to me today the real problem with this team - Vieira is extremely weak at responding to tactical shifts from the opposition. We completely, utterly dominated Philly in the first half, but as soon as they switched things up we were backs against the wall. I'm not sure any of our substitutions today really helped alleviate that. PV is still learning, and he will get better - whether we have the luxury of enduring that learning process is a different story, but hey, we won the game.
I kind of wish we had some soccer/football lifer as an assistant coach. Someone who maybe was a head coach and never found success but has experience; someone who just wants to be involved but not be in charge. Basically a soccer Don Zimmer. Someone like that could help the team in the short term and PV in the long term.

Friend spoiled for me. Since I wasn't at the match and a Verizon subscriber. (Complete bush league) So now I'm on here. Highlights looked nice. Can't wait to see what happened at 6.

What you will find with every successful manager is that they have tunnel vision. Although they will listen to their assistants, ultimately they will go on their own gut instinct.

I can't think of any successful manager who has had a more experienced assistant. He usually surrounds himself with people who believe in his philosophy.

Whether PV will succeed I have my doubts, but I think he believes he will.

I realize this is a rare thing in soccer, but it's very common in every US sport. There could be a reason for that but I'm guessing it's just cultural. It's not part of soccer's DNA. But I think it would work. But then I would think that, I'm American.:D

Love this from villa. We won, sure... But if we were only up by 1 it would have been another game we blew at the end. Wouldn't want anyone else leading this team.
Before my phone died the thing I noticed was how casually white and Hernandez boot the ball out of bounds and give up the posession under even light pressure. Work for it and keep it in play.
This team HAS to be better at closing out games.

Yes I understand what your saying. I think in Europe the appointment of an experiences assistant is seen as a threat, rather than assistance.

Not all rumors are true lol.

In all seriousness, I think it was just one of those cops with an attitude. On the last two philly corners...I was ripping into the Philly player (can't remember name) about his 'man bun' when he was at the flag. That same cop looked like he wanted to club me lol. I thought he was gonna pass out from anger.

How sick was that long Villa take when he caught the goalie out? That goes in and it's a classic.

That was absolutely sublime - hit from almost halfway and he hits the bar. Just summed up the confidence and flair we were playing with.

Hats off to Fat Frank too - he did a lot of great linking up and passing in the final third, especially with Super Jack Harrison, giving him an outlet to play.

I said it a few weeks back, and the reason I predicted a FF brace today (it was close) is because I think he's actually a good fit for the way we need to play most effectively at YS (I won't bore you with the analysis again). Like it or him or not, but he solves some of the home woes.

That only works if you have ball skills. I would posit the opposite; White and Hernandez dick around with the ball far too much given their limited skills, they should be hoofing it out (albeit further upfield) when things get intense.

I'll agree with you when we have acquired a complete back four and keeper who demonstrate some ability and the composure to actually work out of trouble.

Furthermore, although our midfield is far stronger than our back four, they have demonstrated an alarming tendency to stop providing passing options in the middle third late in matches. We were looking pretty flatfooted today from about 75', and this increases pressure on the defense.

Finally, with ~88' on the clock, Poku needs to learn to run it to the corner.

Overall though, this was our best 11, and they delivered according to the script. We are one central defender away from sitting reliably at the top of the table.

Anybody notice that the sons of Ben did a parody of Hey Baby??? Couldn't make out their lyrics but they were fully belting it. And then we scored....

Also, how did the guy that took Lampard down on the breakaway only get a yellow and not a red - wasn't he last man?
