Poku Sold?

If the transfer fee is $750K, then we get $500K in GAM. Presumably we don't have to spend it all in one year. So, say we sign someone this summer to a 2.5 year deal. We can pay an annual salary of $200K, plus the $67K that Poku was making, with no net impact on the salary cap. If we move Mix, that's another $760K/year, and suddenly you can bring someone on a 2.5 year deal at $1 million per, or two people for $500K each.

I love Poku as much as anyone, but this really is best for him and the club. He is going to start making real money and have time in the starting lineup to further develop his game. He is a good guy, and I will be rooting for him.

I find it humorous that anyone presumes to know how much money we'll have from any of this. I'd bet we used plenty of our new kid allocation money in various places (mix). I feel less certain as to how much of it is re-useable.

It's re-usable this year. Who knows what we can do next. But straight up losing Mix and Poku puts us right above the the $3.66mm cap this season.

Actually we'd have $1.2mm to spend (if Mix doesn't bring us back any GAM himself). And now that I think of it. Since the GAM is pro-rated- we may be able to sign a $1.5mm for the remained if the season! You guys really should be reading the Salary Cap Analysis thread (and I have to edit a post there!)

Sure the tweeter could be right. But he can also be completely wrong. MLS transfer or transfers in general are like schrödinger's cat. Poku is both staying with NYCFC and also leaving NYCFC. The first thing in this guy's twitter bio is NYCFC STH. I don't think a reputable source would list that as their first thing in a bio.

When I spoke to Claudio Reyna, Sporting Director of NYCFC he told me that both Eirik Johansen and Jack Harrison were working on getting green cards. That was four months ago. Now if I could speak to someone in the State Department, maybe we can get double confirmation on that.

He also tweeted thing which is just pure 100% complete fan speculation.

When I asked Claudio at the City in the Boroughs, Manhattan event if Mix is on the trading block, Claudio replied no, "he's just has to work his way into the starting 11 like every other player." He could have also said no and not be lying is Mix was transferred and not traded.

You hear shit all the time about this team. City is also completely secretive in its operations. I'll believe it when it's double confirmed.

But if Mix and Poku both leave this team then 3/5th of my customized jerseys will be no longer relevant. Only Harrison and Johansen (yes, I seriously bought one) will be NYCFC players. I have one more to customize that will be Mataritta. I should probably buy another home jersey just to be safe.

So, still think Claudio didn't lie right to your face?

I am assuming that we would spread the $500K across the length of the contract rather than applying it all in the first year.

There's a big difference between lying to someone's face and keeping sensitive player/personnel information secret (possibly while in the middle of negotiations). Assuming any of it's true, of course.

While I might like to know Tim Cook's plans for the new MacBook Pro laptops (or heck, the upcoming Apple Car for that matter) he should absolutely not tell me as I have no business knowing until there's a public announcement. Same with the club.

I'm just saying don't be so trusting because something was told you to one on one at a meet and greet. I agree, he shouldn't be telling fans what the real plans are, but we also shouldn't say something isn't going to happen because Claudio told me so at an event.

Read the fine print. Even if we get the benefit of saying Poku was with us 2 years, we only get 50% of his transfer fee as GAM. We'd need him to be here 3 years to get the full 2/3.

Interesting that we get 3/4 of a Homegrown's transfer fee. What's to stop Man City from purchasing a random homegrown from our academy for $1mm, netting NYC $750k in GAM? or $10mm for that matter, just to completely skirt the cap!

Actually, Poku fits into the first bullet point there. He was signed out of the NASL. Therefore, we get 2/3rds of the fee as GAM.

The table on the bottom applies to GA players and SuperDraft picks. If we sold Shelton today, we'd get 1/2 the fee; if we sold Harrison today, we'd get 1/3 the fee.

Has anyone heard of a possible press conference the team might be calling?

We're all taking for granted that Poku (and for that matter, Mix too) is gone, yet there's seemingly no official announcement from the team on the horizon.

Transfer window opens July 4th. Don't expect any official word on anything transfer wise from the team until then.

I'm not certain selling Poku would result in a press conference. A statement for sure, but not sure a press conference would be necessary.

The MLS website has already run with an article that Poku is gone - albeit it started with the twitter rumor that was "confirmed" by EoS. They actually used the term "confirmed." To me, that's as good of a presser as we may get. Hopefully there's a more dignified & official one than MLS' gossip-style one that that was....

LOL, you know better than that. The whole fucking club could be in administration and all we'd hear from them is some dumb 21 questions with whatever player is next on the list

We're going to need to keep a lot of this GAM to trade for international spots...
