I knew I wanted to be apart of NYCFC for a while but it took me some time before I made my season ticket deposit (I'm not the one paying the bill). There was just something special I felt about this club, this team, in this city. I played soccer as a kid and always liked the sport but never felt attached as a fan. I didn't follow MLS or any other league like I did the Yankees for MLB. Even though we're not at an SSS, Yankee Stadium is special and it's a great way to start things up before we move to our true home.
During the 2014 World Cup ride, I did some digging into news of the club and found this site. I was a reader before I became a member and began posting. And I'm very glad that I did. I think the fans of NYCFC are the best in the city and the world. And everyone on this site (for the most part) are on the top of that list of fandom.
Then the preseason began and we actually had something real: players, a team, competing. Then we played Orlando and we were apart of MLS. Maybe we were playing in sky blue jerseys but fashionable they look dope. If MCFC never existed, people would be saying we have the sexist jerseys in MLS history.
Mix has become my hero (besides Poku) and I still tell him to score a hat trick before every game. He hears it, he smiles every time. He knows I'm there cheering him on and applauding him after every game, win, lose, or draw. Fuck the haters. Yeah the Lampard situation was fucked up, but we can expect growing pains as an expansion club. From the first time Poku was on the field, I caught the fever, and the only cure is more Poku.
I will say that I played as the NY/NJ Metrostars in Backyard Soccer on a PC growing up (Jason Kreis was not on my team, Pablo Sanchez all the way), but I have developed a firm hatred for the Red Bulls. More than the Red Sox. I'll only travel to Harrison, NJ with my brothers and sisters in arms covered in blue.
With an unhealthy addiction to this site and without a summer internship, I've turned into a footie fanatic. I think over the summer I watched at least 150 games from MLS, Womens World Cup, Champions League, Friendlies, etc. I'm hoping this won't affect my GPA senior year as I continue this trend. I really shouldn't be checking this site as much as I do during the academic year, but I can't help myself. I just can't get enough! I just can't get enough!
And since I became hooked on the sport, I'm now waking up early (yes 11 AM is early for me) on Saturdays/Sundays for Premier League and I'm following Man City. That Cityzens connection just worked for me. Synergy across the pond. But NYCFC always comes first.
Here's the next 100,000 posts! God the offseason would be awful without you guys.
