We need a shorthand to distinguish between TAM that is league provided and TAM that is a team's own money. Something like LTAM and TTAM. The distinction is not always relevant but when it is...
I don't care about the specifics. I just prefer to have a recognizable and commonly understood shorthand, whatever it is.
This already exists... kind of.
The new $2.8 million in TAM that is self funded by the clubs is called “Discretionary TAM” by the league. It can neither be traded nor brought forward or backward from year to year.
The original $1.2 million in TAM that is funded by the league doesn’t have a special name, but some have started calling it “regular TAM”.
I think you would acknowledge "kind of" is doing all the work there. Discretionary isn't short hand. No 5-syllable word is.
“Discretionary TAM” is the term the league uses and takes the trouble to define in its press release.
There is no defined term for regular TAM, hence the “kind of”.
If it opens an investigation, the league has the ability to review internal communications, emails and messages, a source with knowledge of the situation said. It can also request any documentation from teams, and it has the ability to review documentation from affiliate clubs for owners with teams in different leagues, like NYCFC, Montreal and the New York Red Bulls. It’s unclear, though, how often MLS invokes those powers. The source said the league often reviews deals it flags as potentially problematic when teams first submit contracts to be reviewed.
