I can't post on the NYCFC roster or matchday threads but I don't see Shay Facey listed on the roster yet. When does he become available to NYCFC for first team selection?

As soon as he is loaned. He hasn't been loaned yet. It may well be that the club are having issues sorting out the legals.

St. Ledger just signed with Orlando City yesterday afternoon and is projected to start and so I hope Facey can start for us.

Not attacking so sorry if it comes off that way, but why do you hope Facey starts? The most experience he has ever had was in the U21s for Manchester City. He is virtually an unknown. He may very well end up having a great time here, but what evidence is there to support that he should start tomorrow, besides lack of depth in the back?

I haven't seen him play for NYCFC yet, so you are right, I don't have any direct evidence and my enthusiasm may be misplaced. I just like to see young players do well and with George John out for now, it would be nice for Shay to carve out significant minutes (hence starting since, unless there is an injury (which I don't want), you are generally subbing forwards and midfielders and not defenders). I realize that Facey would need to beat out Josh Williams, Jeb Brovsky, Andres Mendoza, Jason Hernandez and Kwame Watson-Siriboe for one of three starting spots and that may not happen.

Some of the encouraging signs are that:

1. The fan matchday feedback was very positive; in fact, I don't recall a single negative remark about Shay. Comments such as, against Houston: "Facey:7.5 best starter, was best player in field for 60 min. Had crucial break up on early rush, calm on ball." and ".. Facey ... stand out for me! Facey is so composed ..." and against Orlando "Facey definitely provided some assurance in our back line upon entering."

and

2. Shay is considered to be a real competitor and hungry, he has studied under Patrick Vieira and is considered one of the young stars of Man City and has captained the elite development squad.

I am also hopeful for Shay because he is only expected to be here until June (although that could change) so if he doesn't get off to a strong start, he may not see any action.

I realize that many talented backs -- including veteran centerbacks -- struggle when they start to play in MLS and may take close to a full season to achieve consistent play (e.g., Markus Holgersson, Rafa Marquez, Roy Miller, Matt Miazga, etc.) so there is no guarantee it will work out for Shay. I'm just hopeful Shay has a positive impact for the team.
