I'm glad they had the sense not to make some big deal out of this with an event. This is the most anticlimactic reveal possible, and it's fine that way.
To be fair New York Already has A stadium, field, center and Garden and has an Arena in Long Island.

Alas, farewell, Naming Rights Sponsor Stadium. Gone too soon, before you even began, with never a chance to spread your pigeony wings. I shall always remember you.
And more-so, Park makes sense due to the proximity to, you know, the park...To be fair New York. Already has A stadium, field, center and Garden and has an Arena in Long Island.

Etihad Park it is.
We all know that fans always refer to stadiums by their original name. 20 years from now we'll be telling friends "I'm heading over to the Sponsor Name" and they'll know what you mean.

Says this in the NYT/Athletic, for what it's worth:

Uhh ... OK. Haven't seen that anywhere else, but I hope that's not true. Would really be a tight construction timeline if they expect it to be 26 months.
