Stadium Discussion

Didn't they run a similar survey sometime last year on that City Voice page? And is that thing still up and running?

They did, and it was almost identical to this one. The questions were very similar. The only difference I recall are the charts of the hypothetical stadium.

My guess is they're just preparing for the planning phase. Still think they don't have a set location. They even insinuate to that in the email.

I wrote that they should find a way to make it unique. I've been to RBA and Stubhub and both are great venues for viewing a soccer game, they're not particularly distinct. Ours should be the best and stand out from all the others.
Red Bull Arena is not really designed well. In the summer it basically turns into an oven as there's no air circulation and the sun just pours in. Saw Man City play there a few years ago and it was extra toasty.

The office was just an added piece. The big puzzle piece is using Populous renderings in their email that have been edited by both perspective and color (probably need the masters to edit perspective). And then we know Populous already designed the stadiums for both Yankees & CFG. It's not definitive proof, but it's more then grasping at straws.

Populous might design our stadium. They've done more than one in MLS. But that photo of BBVA is not an official Populous photo. It's a very good amateur photo available on Wikimedia COmmons:

It's by a guy who uses the handle "houtexusa"and he's on Fiickr, Tumblr, Twitter etc where you can find lots of other pictures of the stadium and Dynamo games, plus Texans games, and general Houston stuff.

hmmmm retractable roof. There is something to be said for that for March, April night games, and even October.

Probably adds $109 million to the project. I tbink the new Giants Stadium quite was an extra $200 million for a roof

Best solution has to be teaming up with Columbia and building it in Manhattan.

Two birds, one stone.
The one positive I see in the Columbia site is that it's still accessible from downtown and Westchester. I hope CFG is keeping track of where its season ticket holders are living and using the data from that to make it most accessible for the majority of fans. And if our poll is any indication, it's probably best to be along the Lex line.

Meh, there are so many new transportation initiatives scheduled over the next decade. They can't build for what works today. Hell, the stadium won't even be built till at least 2021 at this point. Between the East side access and possible metro north trains to a new Penn Station in the works, if the stadium is actually in Manhattan, that's a win for everyone. The transportation will eventually work no matter where you're coming from and the stadium won't be going anywhere. Unless they build the floating stadium we all talked about....

absolutely no parking though, so transport would need to be wholly via public

I think an indoor stadium with roll out grass, like they have in Glendale, AZ, would be great. It would improve the ability to use the space for conventions or concerts, which the city would like.
