The3rd Rail just twittered that the land is bought just south of Yankee Stadium, will be 100% privately financed. Just waiting on announcement.
Cablevision! Dammit, I knew it was his cable company, I just couldn't recall which one. Great news on the land deal. Can't wait for the announcement.
I am REALLY excited for this stadium. I think it is going to be unreal, from what I hear that CFG wants to do.

I wonder if some of you even live in NYC. Again, there's a reason why there's only one sports arena in Manhattan. Space and price are part of it, but there are other factors, and yes parking is one of them.
I never suggested that if the stadium is in Manhattan, that people should drive in. That would be a nightmare, which is my point. There are people who live outside of NYC that will want to attend games. Sure, there's LIRR for islanders, but my guess is that none of you use it frequently, which is why you suggest it. I take the LIRR everyday, it's one of the worst ways of commuting in the city.
And no, just because a stadium is in Manhattan doesn't mean it will have a higher attendance than a stadium in other boroughs. That's just nonsense. Yankee Stadium, Citi Field and Barclay are all outside of Manhattan and are all easy to get to by train, bus and car.
All I'm saying is that out of all the areas in NYC, other than SI, Manhattan makes the least sense. A stadium in Manhattan ain't going to happen. It's not a viable option for many reasons.
Anyway, these are just my opinions based on 35 years of attending sporting events in NYC. What do I know.

I would love a Manhattan arena but the reality is land costs are ridiculous. Do you realize that it would cost about 80-100 million dollars to buy a patch of buildable Manhattan land the size of a football pitch (75x120).
That's ONLY for the pitch! Forget about the structure and surrounding areas.
I'm not saying it can't be done, but you would no doubt wind up close to a billion dollars or more.

you make no sense. Cant get to Manhattan from LI but can get to Yankee Stadium easier?

Hmm NYCFC's account hasn't issued a denial, nor has any other report come out. All in all, it's kind of quiet since Third Rail tweeted that out. That's surprising; Third Rail is a big enough source that you think the other MLS reporters would at least engage it.
I make very much sense, because I've done both more times than you can imagine. Takes me 20 min from my place on LI to Yankee Stadium by car, even with a little traffic. I know the roads like the back of my hand.
For me to get into Manhattan by mass transit it takes me 1.5 hour, and that's during the week with the LIRR express train that only makes 3 stops. On the weekend it would take over 2 hours because the LIRR runs local. By car it would be even longer with the traffic on the LIE, on the bridge and in Manhattan.
It's super easy to get into Manhattan when you live in the City, but once you're outside of it, getting there with mass transit is a nightmare, especially on weekends.

I think you may have missed the earlier points of (an admittedly pointless) debate. Drainyoo is arguing that Manhattan is the most difficult borough to get to. I say it's the easiest.
An old co-worker of mine who grew up on LI say they all have a phobia of the city. I think he might have been right given how much Drainyoo is against a Manhattan stadium.
Nobody is arguing that it will happen. We're just arguing over the reason it very likely won't happen. Like you, most of us understand that it comes down to space and $. Our pal Drainyoo doesn't like it because it takes him a long time to get here and he can't drive. Silly suburb dweller...

Actually, I grew up in and lived in Queens most of my life, and just recently moved to LI. I don't have any phobias about NYC, I just know better.
I never claimed that Manhattan is difficult to get to for everyone. If you live in the 5 boroughs, it's the best. But if you live outside of NYC limits, like I'm sure a lot of NYCFC fans do, it's a real headache. Parking is definitely an issue for Manhattan stadium ideas, and I would bet that NYCFC has thought about it. That's all.

Yeah, my fault for not reading up on the thread more thoroughly.
I feel for people who have to travel more than 45 minutes to see their teams.
It's always been a short trip on the iron horse or hailing a yellow bird for us privileged Manhattanites to see our NY teams.

Not all fans live within the city limits. Just a quick scan of the Support Factions forum, it looks like most of the factions are from outside of NYC. My guess it that us "silly suburb dwellers" will make up a large portion of the fan base.
I wouldn't expect most reporters to mention it until the shovels are in the ground
