the announcers actually mentioned the availability of fruit cups on the broadcast of the match, said they had never seen that before at a stadium

Speaking of the announcers we ran into Alejandro Moreno in our hotel lobby the night before the match and chatted briefly. He said that he was there to work but that he's also a fan, and implied he's a NYCFC fan too.

My wife took this photo at the match. She also purchased a large cup of blueberries for $4.50 CAD or less than $4 USD.

they were delicious....maybe because it was hot weather made them extra tasty

I find his commentary to be fair as opposed to antagonistic like Lalas. Moreno commented a few times that he's going to have the rules explained to him again after seeing Drogba get off twice without a card for a stomping incident(s). That's a very balanced way of stating he disagrees with the ref's lack of enforcement.

Wait. What?

Better food coming to YS?

Sources please!!!

It's been discussed on here before. I think it had it's own thread. They were introducing new food to Yankee Stadium. And it seems like they have already.

Moreno, I've come to conclude, is the best in-game analyst on ESPN. He and Healy are a good pair for MLS matches. It's a shame NBC didn't hold onto some MLS rights. I used to love Arlo doing the pbp and Kyle Martino doing color/analysis from the actual sideline.

Big fan of Kyle both professionally and personally. Great guy and terrific on NBC. I know Fox tried to poach him but he didn't want to leave EPL coverage.

The one behind section 226 (approx)? I've gotten some NYCFC grilled cheeses on a few occasions. Darn good.

Great. I went by early in the year, and it was closed. Glad to see they've opened it up.

And they do sell hand fruit on the Field Level, but that's not a Fruit Cup. Fruit Cup is almost as good a thing as Chicken Bucket.

Yeah but that new food is already here and it's all crap. This post made it sound like actual good food was on its way.

Looks like the Isles might be stealing the Kosmos' prized location. I find it baffling how the Isles can release publicly 2 possible locations, but the Pigeons can't say a word about anything.

The Islanders did not officially release anything. Both stories are sourced to people-familiar-with-the-discussions. That could be someone from be the Islanders, could be the other side, or a broker, etc. It could be an unofficial but sanctioned leak, or completely unapproved. Hard to judge given the unknowns. It does make the CGF stadium efforts seem remarkably airtight in comparison. All due respect to The Toe The Toe and NYCFCfan but there's no real evidence of any meaningful leaks. The established local media have nothing. And the info we have gotten here hasn't amounted to much. I believe our two are honest about what they've been told but at this point I have no confidence that either has been given anything meaningful by anyone with knowledge.
To be fair, even though the Islanders are as low as 9th on the NY area team depth chart, they still participate in one of the 4 major sports and local news will give them more space than NYCFC, but even with that, either NYCFC has absolutely nothing going on or this is an extraordinarily disciplined negotiating team, on both sides.

You're right. I should have said released or leaked. Next time just FIFY me! ;)

I agree on all counts.... But I also think the State has zero desire to let a lower-div barely supported soccer team build a white elephant and are doing everything possible to block it - the Islanders are a convenient "developer" that would definitely draw more fans to the site considering their history and Long Island fan base. If the Isles decide to go there then the state doesn't have to give the Kosmos the reason for delaying - that they have zero confidence in their crappy org.

Cosmos aside, I also wonder if the Islanders will have an easier time than NYCFC because a hockey arena starts out with 40 uses each year, and while we have other arena venues in the city, it's still easier to imagine booking assorted events there than in a 20-30k outdoor stadium. If you're in a neighborhood, a minimal number of events is nice, but if you're in undeveloped area next to Belmont or Citi Field, you'd rather build something that gets more use not less.
