Let's not forget that "according to sources" we almost had a stadium ready to go in the Bronx. Then we were in talks with Columbia U.

Info get's out, but it does not always turn out well.

So they'd end up with no stadium, no team, and just a loss? Even as a joke, this doesn't make sense, unless you don't actually know what a tax write-off is.

Well, it would remove the Islanders as competition for land for a stadium site in NYCFC. It would be an extraordinary loss accounting wise since hockey would be a non-operating activity.

If they buy the team and then sell it for a loss it's a loss loss not an accounting loss. Buying a business for a tax loss only works if you're getting non-cash expenses like depreciation or amortization. Actually taking cash losses is a pretty bad tax reduction strategy, though it works 100% of the time.

What does that have to do with NYCFC?

Red Bull Arena looks like a make shift stadium. Tiny concourse to boot. Not to mention unpaved parking lot.

Yankee Stadium in every retrospect except shape is superior experience.

As someone who also has Islanders season tickets, they hosted a town hall last week with the new ownership. They said despite the rumors they are sticking it out in Brooklyn and are not trying to opt out of their lease early.

As an Islanders fan in Brooklyn, I don't want them to move.

As a realist, another arena in NYC area? Not happening. There is already 3 arenas within 50 mile radius.

My friend said it felt like a temporary structure and I agree. The whole place feels cheap. But the sight lines are fantastic and that is what really matters. Blows YS out of the water in my book. Can't wait to have or own place.

The Islanders did not officially release anything. Both stories are sourced to people-familiar-with-the-discussions. That could be someone from be the Islanders, could be the other side, or a broker, etc. It could be an unofficial but sanctioned leak, or completely unapproved. Hard to judge given the unknowns. It does make the CGF stadium efforts seem remarkably airtight in comparison. All due respect to The Toe and NYCFCfan but there's no real evidence of any meaningful leaks. The established local media have nothing. And the info we have gotten here hasn't amounted to much. I believe our two are honest about what they've been told but at this point I have no confidence that either has been given anything meaningful by anyone with knowledge.
To be fair, even though the Islanders are as low as 9th on the NY area team depth chart, they still participate in one of the 4 major sports and local news will give them more space than NYCFC, but even with that, either NYCFC has absolutely nothing going on or this is an extraordinarily disciplined negotiating team, on both sides.

No offense taken, that's exactly the issue I've had. No one wants to give me or say anything on the record either way. Not a "they're not doing anything" or a "they're doing something". It's incredibly frustrating not even knowing where they are in the process.

So you are telling me that on 7/16 Elmont residents spontaneously protest the Cosmos soccer stadium and on 7/22 it is annouced that the NYRA is courting the Islanders for that same site.

IMHO, the Elmont site would be great for the Islanders. Most of their fanbase is still LI and its a better location than Nassau Coliseum since it has highway and LIRR access.

I think Shawn Ryu might have been confused in his response to Lion, and I could possibly have confused things further by jumping in and continuing a tangent of his post, but I thought it was pretty clear that the conversation between Shawn Ryu and myself was about RBA.

IMHO, the Elmont site would be great for the Islanders. Most of their fanbase is still LI and its a better location than Nassau Coliseum since it has highway and LIRR access.

That location is still hard for Suffolk county. As someone who's supported the Isles since he was a child and lived in Nassau most his life, it's a great location for me. But Barclays is actually better since I work in the city and take the LIRR. As long as they remain in NY I'm happy.
