Stadium Discussion

Of course nobody really knows what's taking place, but iirc didn't the last article on this deal state that GAL was the party to pull out of the deal, because they're the ones who wanted more money?

Actually, for those who want the Bronx site it's good news that the hangs ups are tied to the city. With those garages bleeding the way they are it's more likely a deal with NYC would be easily reached than if the elevator company was holding things up.

Well, if the city is refusing to subsidize a new stadium, then good for Deblasio for standing up to the Yankees. That said, due to the terrible decision to fund those parking garage it might be the city's only way out.

This still won't stop people asking about NYCFC's so called favortism over stadium requirements. Both Garber and now Levine have insisted a deal was close and people will believe what they want. As for DeBlasio he isn't exactly free of criticism at the moment particularly in dealings with the NYPD. I imagine NYCFC's stadium isn't exactly high on his mind at the moment. Note as well that Levine said searching for sites in NEW YORK CITY.

Roosevelt Island is literally a clusterfuck. I worked there for four years in the good ole RIPD. It's actually not city property, it's leased to New York State. Southpoint Park was redone as someone said and also probably isn't big enough for a stadium even if it worked.

The "F" train is down every weekend in one direction. The tram is a nightmare. The island is weird. The people are weirder. The luxury apartments buildings are amazing by the way. The 'affordable' apartments make it not worth it at all.

Hard to believe that my fellow MOT Mike Bloomberg was doing a whole lot to subsidize the Sheikh. If there will ever be a stadium subsidy to finally get the public to speak out against stadium subsidies it would be the city or state giving $1 of concessions to Mansour.

Sounds pretty racist

Wasn't sure where to put this but anyway...

Pernetti commented on Open Cup fixtures today and the possibility they could be televised. Also that they could give up home status and play every game away from home. There is no "appetite" (however you interpret that) to play these games elsewhere in the New York area. Does anyone think it might make sense to actually play them somewhere just outside the city? Somewhere like Westchester where its been said there's a big following? I know playing outside the city would be unacceptable in any other competition but that could be an exception. Sites should be putting themselves forward really it would be good business for them (even with likely low attendances in comparison to MLS games)

Also I wonder what the plan is with CONCACAF? If NYCFC qualify before the new stadium is built that might unavoidably clash with baseball. So that's another reason it might make sense to find a home site for Open Cup games because it might be needed for CONCACAF too.

For me it would absolutely make sense to stream them on nycfc.com if YES can't show every exhibition, cup, etc.

I'll continue to stump for Flushing. I feel like the opposition to the site is limited at best and the land that can be used for the stadium would be well served rather than it being vacant. Queens has a vibrant culture of all nations and would serve the beautiful game wonderfully.

Flushing is just one of the reasons the Mets have poor attendance

Limited? Wasn't there strong opposition to the idea of a soccer stadium being built there?
