The stadium is rendered to sit on top of the Newtown Creek. The Newtown Creek is a national superfund site.

It's "the most polluted waterway in north america."

Also this is right smack in the middle of one of the largest oil spills in history.

It's also right next to the Greenpoint waste water facility. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/html/environmental_education/newtown_wwtp.shtml

So needless to say it's a pretty "shitty" idea to build there.

The thing is, it is precisely because this area is so polluted that this is a viable alternative. This is one of the few central locations that cannot be turned into high-rises because of the prohibitive cost of cleanup for residential use. A stadium would fall in a different category.

But there are high rises included in the rendering?

You, uh... you haven't read much of the thread since the rendering was posted, have you.

Yup. Another reason why Willet's Point has likely become more viable for us too.

It would be technically possible because they could divert into the already-existing Hunters Point Ave. LIRR stop. BUT, what would be frustrating is that there wouldn't be a connection to East Side Access because that's north of there near the Queensboro Bridge. If there *were* a way to connect to East Side Access, then this hypothetical Metro North train could loop through western Queens and then still terminate at Grand Central.

Actually, East Side Access, uh... access, is possible but it would require backtracking up the existing LIRR line.

Why would it matter where the trains end up? If you were taking a MNR train and needed to terminate at GCT, you could take one direct.

I think most of the previous questions were more related to how you were able to "gain possession" of the rendering. It seemed like your info was more, overheard, or perhaps even told to you. But this is something that is a digital file, and not a picture of a rendering by camera-phone. So I think that is where some of the questions have come up.

That said, I completely understand that you may not feel comfortable sharing any additional info or how this came into your hands, and that's all fair and reasonable. :)

Of course - and I would question all of this too. I'm not offended. But if you ask me for info in one post and contradict what I’m saying in another, I may be inclined to point out that what I say apparently is not really the point so much as using me as a prop to work out a narrative. :)
