You’d be awful at cockney.

Back to the future ->
Marty Mcfly ->
Marty Edelman
The guy who is on CFG’s board and also one of CFG’s registered lobbyists in New York City to boot.
I took "with the club" a bit more literally. To me, outside counsel and member of board of the corporate parent isn't really in that circle so Edelman was completely off my mental radar. I even looked up the front office listing to see if there was a Marty I forgot. Not an actual disagreement. Just a different way of looking at it. Thanks for the explanations.

That’s fair. You’re right in that I don’t think he really has a day-to-day role at the club (or an office or anything). But when it comes to dealing with the city, he’s been THE guy since well before any ball was kicked off by a boy in blue.

At least I *think* they’re new. I could be wrong about that of course.

Had a nice conversation with the sagely bartenders at stan’s and they brought up a great point. Until we get enough fans to go to games, we’ll never get our own stadium. We need the attendance numbers to make sense. We won’t get our own building unless we start pushing to the upper decks.

Sounds like a chicken or egg debate.

I disagree. That would be a horrible Catch-22. Can’t increase attendance until we get a new stadium and can’t get a new stadium until we increase attendance.

Anyway, the lower bowl (field and main) holds about 33,000 people, so pushing the upper decks is unreasonable anyway.

Red Bull arena cost 2 million apparently and it’s empty most of the time. You need a secondary revenue source in order to have a stadium make sense financially. 2 million and god knows how much else in operating costs for 20 games a year don’t make much sense financially.

I don't think you could pave the parking lot at RBA for $2 million.

Also, as I'm sure you've noticed, RBA is in a terrible location and RBNJ have terrible fans, so I don't think it's an apt comparison.

Wikipedia says the cost was $200 million, not $2 million. Coupla extra zeros.

Yankee Stadium is not being given to us for free.

No offense to you personally or to the sagely bartenders, but I don't think that's very sage. In fact, as a founding member / season ticket holder, I find it downright offensive. I started with 6 season tickets. The expectation and the promise was that this club/ownership would build us a stadium. I held onto all of my tickets until this year, and I was going to drop them all, but was convinced to keep 2 for this season. If there's no announcement by this renewal, I'm out (I don't need a definitive stadium announcement, just ANYTHING CONCRETE). If the ownership would really use low attendance in a baseball stadium in April as an excuse, then so be it, but I won't be part of it.

This is admittedly a terrible analogy, but what the hell... this would be like a venue selling tickets to a show starting at 8pm, a crowd gathering at 8pm, and waiting... 9pm, 10pm, 11pm... still no show... people start leaving... and then at 11:30pm when the crowd is getting thin, the venue saying something to the little crowd "hey, if there's such a small crowd, we're not gonna put on the show".

You can say RBA is in a terrible location (but actually, Harrison is undergoing incredible development at the moment), but come on... In the words of Ferris Bueller...

I meant terrible in terms of accessibility, but I agree wholeheartedly.

Car access is real tough. They sold out for the first time in for ever for the recent Peru-Iceland friendly, and it was a nightmare. But the stadium itself, if you could change the colors and team logo, is beautiful.
