Remember, the team and developers didn’t have anything to do with this. This was the Community Board’s own initiative, in light of the rumored stadium development, to start thinking about community priorities in neighborhood planning and negotiation around the stadium proposal should the developers actually put something forward.
So on other words, this is the community getting together and saying, “there’s a rumor of a stadium being built. What do we want to get out of this investment?” Which is perfectly reasonable considering how they are disappointed with the new Yankee Stadium. Maybe some sort of contract can be worked out to where the work on the riverfront can be started or even completed before the stadium is completed.

If you listen to Glenn Crooks podcast, I think you have to feel good about this development.

And what’s Dylan Butlers deal? Is he a troll?

Maybe SoupInNYC SoupInNYC will disagree but I got the impression that the community members were excited about the suggested improvements to that part of the South Bronx and it was made clear it only happens if there is a stadium.

Glenn also mentioned that Niall Macomish suggested there is a ton of other parking that’s never used that we don’t even talk about on here. Parking lots and the like. Niall suggested that the entire area is incrediy under developed and utilized

We’ll see how it plays out, but note that the ULURP approval is a public process designed to incorporate input from the neighborhood constituents and all levels of city government. It starts with the developer’s comprehensive plan and then runs that plan, publicly, through the wringer.

The point is, the whole plan—maps, infrastructure, renderings, the whole kit and caboodle—will be public at the start of the ULURP approval process, whether or not the team pulls out a podium to announce it.

i get that but even if its public its not guaranteed it will be done. i prefer the process being reported by official government sources or community leaders, approvers, detractors, real estate blogs etc. until it is a done deal. because if nycfc announces that the process has started and then it doesnt go thru then thats another egg on face and there will be fans thinking "why announce something that didnt go thru" ( even thru no fault of their own). at this rate id rather just wait till team announces once complete because in theory they should of already been working on proceedings this whole time.

i could be wrong but other stadiums status were updated thru government representatives or local journalists regarding and legal proceedings until everything is approved. if not you can get a miami situation where they announce plans etc and now the site may not be available.

Wow.

I completely disagree. I’d like to know they are making actual progress and have a plan in place officially.

It’s oretty obvious they have people out there leaking things here and there. I’m sick of it. Say you’re involved at GAL but there’s a lot of work to do still.

Agree with you.

"This is a spot that we've been targeting, and the process is moving forward. While we aren't at the finish line yet, we are confident we will be able to get this across the finish line in the next 12-18 months. We know you're frustrated with how long this has taken -- we are, too. But we are working as hard as possible to make sure we have a positive outcome."

I don't need them to give us the farm here, just let us know that this is real, it's possible, and they're working on it. We're all smart enough to know it could fall apart.

Would the majority of our fans be happy if the club announced they were beginning an environmental report on that piece of land? I would. It would stem the hemorrhaging in my eyes.

For those smarter than me - is it feasible that an environmental report is already underway? What do those cost?
I have no idea if I'm smarter than you, but the environmental review is not yet underway. However, lest anyone take that the wrong way, I think it is likely that it will be underway soon, perhaps as early as the spring if things progress as they have been :praying: . Also remember that the ULURP process typcailly happens more or less concurrently with the environmental reivew. Also, as someone else mentioned, public scoping happens early in the environmental/ULURP process so it will all be out there at that point.

Not a chance.
You all realize that NYCFC_Dan NYCFC_Dan is heavily lobbying behind the scenes against a stadium because once the club builds one, the stadium thread is gonna dry up and it’s the biggest mover of traffic on the forums. He dies a little every time there’s a rumor because it’s bitter-sweet driving up traffic but it’s then possibly that much closer to reality and a dormant thread.

Don’t let him fool you.

I do think overall, local community members were generally excited about the suggested improvements. Where there was hesitation, is because they’ve been burned in the past with things they were promised for the new Yankee Stadium. Hard to blame them there.

I don’t think it was clear that these things only happen with a stadium. That was the assumption used in this, and I’ve pointed out that I am highly skeptical any of this works without a stadium (for several reasons, mostly I don’t think a developer will pony up the required $ for GAL for something that will be less lucrative than a stadium), but that actual argument wasn’t made.

A local resident (actual board member of CB4) brought up can these developments happen without a stadium, and the response was yes they can. But again, I’m skeptical that’s realistic because of how key the GAL property is.

I love how the 'about us' at the bottom of the forum is literally just 'Announce Stadium' LOL
I think you’re the first person to bring that up. I put it there when we upgraded.

When the club actually announces a stadium this thread is getting moved to a STADIUM FORUM.
This thread will stay open but the influx of information will likely require a sub forum of its own.

Thank you SoupInNYC SoupInNYC

It sounds like it was made plainly obvious that someone could certainly come in and do all the improvements. But for now, those improvements are tied to the soccer stadium.

It’s a good sign that the community liked the improvements being offered. It’s just how badly do they want them. Bad enough to get behind the stadium?

One question I have about all this involves the open parking lots on the river between the roads right off Exit 6. These seem to be a great spot for developing nice public space for the community to access and enjoy the river. The area directly to the south is the Children's Museum and some park space. This could be an extension of that park.

Was this addressed in the meeting? I note that the space is marked in yellow on the picture below, but it's not clear what that designates.

The other issue is getting access to that space from the other side of the Degan and the Metro North tracks. Given that both the 153rd St ramp and the Metro North Overpass will likely need moving or adjusting to fit the Stadium, there should be ample opportunity to upgrade to something that allows pedestrians to cross the tracks on both sides of the Stadium.
