So apparently uefa wants the 2024 final of the champions league in new York. So 2024 champions league quality stadium completion confirmed?
DeBlasio gets a lot of blame for NYCFC not having a stadium deal. I don’t like DeBlasio a great deal but I applaud him for not rolling over for CFG and the Yankees.
There’s a lot of development and building going on that includes housing for lower incomes in the city. If CFG and the Yanks decided to really give something to the community and city I’m sure this would be done. My understanding is that, “Both Yankee Stadium and Citi Field sit atop city-owned land, and neither team pays rent or property taxes. I would love it if a soccer stadium was built for this team but let the corporations who will profit pay for it. No more working class dollars for rich people.

The problem that led BDB to kill NYCFC's stadium had nothing to do with those types of giveaways. He didn't like that the city wouldn't get back taxes on the parking garages that would be demolished to build the stadium.

Didn’t GAL pull out of the original deal anyway? I though that was the bigger factor over DeBlasio.
I'm pretty sure that was a debunked rumor based on a misinterpreted line in one article or something. The GAL owner was quoted months after the first attempt fell apart as saying he didn't know what happened, they were going to make a deal and suddenly they stopped calling.

Call me crazy, but I think NYCFC gave up on the idea of Queens quite a while ago. The only active sites that have been getting contracted work are in the Bronx. Bronx is too familiar, accessible for the most people and will require a lot less work on behalf of the club than Queens.
I think because one of the biggest hurdles of getting something built is local community/political support. QBFC seems to have both already so that part of it is pretty much done. Secondly, the stadium won't be as big as what NYCFC wants, so that alone should make it easier.
Anyway, save that for the QBFC thread. This thread should be more dedicated to our NYCFC stadium misery.
we dont know what is the site of the SSS, everyone assumes willets point. however, in the meantime a modular stadium will be built so they have somewhere they can have play is not bleeding money in rent in a baseball stadium waiting to see what happens. so optics look different.
I'm curious as to why everyone seems to think that QBFC has so much more local community/political support than NYCFC does? What is that based on? Just the picture of Katz with Villa and Moya?
What's interesting is NYCFC could have build a 25,000 seat modular SSS at anytime. They chose to, and continue to still choose to go down the YS route.
