Yankee Stadium for soccer has many, many blind spots. Many places where you can't see a corner and some where you can't see two.
Not my point. Neither stadium was designed for soccer; both have soccer blind spots because of this. Citi has lots of blind spots for baseball and not just in the outfield corners. It was designed poorly for its primary purpose. YS does not have this problem. My original point was about Wilpon incompetence, which dwarfed any shortcomings of Yankee ownership.

Not disagreeing with you about them being baseball stadiums not designed for soccer. But while I sorta miss Shea one thing I don’t at all miss is how steep the upper deck was. I definitely prefer a slightly less than ideal outfield corner view to the feeling of constant peril LOL. And while the view wasn’t good at all from where I was in the back of level 100 in left field a few years ago the first time we were at Citi Field, when I sat in the same place but in the 300s it was awesome because you could actually see everything.

Shea was a dump and also somewhat poorly designed for baseball (a mezzanine seat halfway down the line was practically over the horizon—at Citi Field many comparable seats have obstructed views). I have some great memories from there but it was a dump. I actually miss the steep pitch of Shea and old Yankee because you could actually see the whole field! But there’s just no excuse for obstructed views in the middle of the stands in this day and age. Anyway, for the record I think YS, despite its quirks and its general evil empire vibe, is still a better place to watch a soccer match than either RBA or Gillette, the two other places I’ve been to most.

ETA: my seats at Citi have been actually OK, but not as intimate as my 129 seats at YS, which are close enough to the SS to have vibe but also very close to the field. I got a few great years of practically being able to reach out and touch David Villa marauding down the left.

I maintain that if you know where to sit, there are some really good seats at Yankee Stadium for soccer. If you sit in the wrong spot though, it can be particularly awful.

RBA’s location sucks, its concessions suck, the fact that no one comes to games sucks, etc etc BUT the sight lines are damn awesome. It’s basically a great stadium to sit and watch the game but everything else about it is low rent.

I've always said that RBA is a great stadium for football once you're in your seat. Everything else is terrible.

Hey Mr. SoupInNYC SoupInNYC Just asking for a friend, but how was the September CB4 meeting?

Which for me isn’t quite enough to make for a decent game day experience.

The September CB4 meeting was very eventful but nothing stadium related (the zoom meeting got hacked and I’ll just leave it at that).

October meeting upcoming this week and while nothing is on the agenda to officially discuss, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some discussion around the rumored development although nothing would be in a voting or even official consideration capacity.

I say this as they are going to be discussing capital budget priorities for the upcoming fiscal year so wouldn’t be surprised if some development discussion bled into that

Last night was a glorious victory in front of a pitiful crowd. I said I’d suspend all team criticism until Wednesday. But this is FO criticism…

if you had told me in 2015 that we’d throttle DCU 6-0 in a six pointer in a playoff fight in October 2021, I would have envisioned a packed stadium (either YS or our own) and a bunch of friends lined up to take my second ticket (which I dropped for next season).

Instead we get maybe, generously, 10k on a Saturday night. If that’s the best we can do, we should be in a temp stadium.

It just underscored has disastrous the RBA plan is for the team and how important it is for this team to find a home that it controls — even a too-small home — in the five boroughs while it figures out a real solution. It couldn’t be that hard to figure out a temporary solution in partnership with a University or a temporary upgrade to Icahn Stadium and while I understand why they have been hesitant to go there, if they cannot schedule all their home matches in the boroughs they are going to continue to bleed support. As hard to reach as those places are, a packed 10-15k with a decent team would at least establish some scarcity. I don’t hate YS or even CIti Field but if they can’t reliably schedule a full season in advance, it’s not working, and worse, it’s a downgrade from what we all signed up for. It’s clear that the negative effects of RBA home matches have extended to the Actual home matches. If I were in the FO I’d be doing a major rethink right now.

I had the “pleasure” of listening to 3 of our seat reps talk about sales for next season. Let’s just say that any benefit of the doubt we’ve provided our ticketing reps flew out the window. It was a fucking slimy conversation. Like listening to 3 assholes hock timeshares.

And everything is up for negotiation. Anyone out there right now that thinks you can’t negotiate your costs or your location or bonus credits or anything. Ask for it all because it was blatantly obvious last night that they’re pulling wool over eyes and they’re in on the joke.

10k? Maybe 5.

they must be losing so much g.d. money this year. Like, “let’s pack it up and buy another team in Asia,” mone.

Not gonna lie. Wouldn’t be the worst thing for this club to break up with us.

Yankees are ruining this team (and the Bronx)

Pretty sobering article, the Yankees screwed the pooch so bad it eroded the community support.

I can’t believe a billion dollar deal just eradicated like that.
I really don't think this is too sobering. They polled 200 people, so 22 people less supported this than in 2019. I really don't think considering the sample size, that that moves the needle much.

Now I'm sure public support is fading to a degree. But I don't think it's faded that much and overall this would be welcomed.

Of course, it's awful that this continues to drag on and on and the further it does, more of that public support would continue to erode. It is good to see Vanessa Gibson who is all but certain to be the next Bronx Borough President come a bit strong here.

And I noted this on Twitter, and I'll reiterate it here. The article speculates in several spots whether or not the stadium would be paying property taxes.

The deal would result in the stadium itself being owned by the city, so while there wouldn't technically be any property taxes paid, under the original agreement, an equal amount in PILOTs were to be made to what the property taxes would have been.
