Interesting news I found when looking into this. This past May, a private equity firm, Golden Gate Capital, bought a majority stake in GAL, with the family owners retaining a minority.

Golden Gate often get's involved in a company to take part in a turnaround/rescue, or merge with another company. They often pile on debt to the company, leading it towards Bankruptcy. It's not unthinkable that GAL may no longer be in the Bronx in short time, or they will be before a bankruptcy judge who, seeing a nice cash offer from CFG, could order them to take it. They could also be preparing to expand the company, which would most likely require a new facility, whether that be in NYC or not, it most likely will be at another site.
Sorry i'm lazy to do research into Golden Gate, but i'm going by memory of deals they have been involved in. I'd say their involvement is a positive for us, as they will be more likely to make a rational business decision if an offer comes along, whereas family ownership may make a sentimental decision to stay where they have been despite a solid offer.

Bulldozers won't float on Etihad island. We'll just suddenly see dredging equipment and then an island will pop up. That's why CFG brought those Chinese investors in. They know how to say "fuck you here's an island we'll do what we want"
 
Speaking of Long Island City, i'm curious about a place called Hunters Point at the corner of 2nd st and 54th Ave and bordered by the East River and Newtown creek.

Its about a 10 minute walk from the Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av subway station.

On google maps it looks like its just a empty block with a lot of empty containers and builders rubble and soil etc.

Is this spot planned for anything or has something already gone there?? Is it a park ??

Seems like a big enough spot to put a stadium.

In fact, all that surrounding area in LIC is rumored to be scheduaked for rezoning. It's hard to find owners willing to sell because of that. And forget about assembling 10 acres. Though Fresh Direct sure works in landing almost all the area we'd need in one shot...

1. It's a perfect location from a number of public transportation perspectives
2. It will offer some the best views for a stadium anywhere in the world
3. It was purchased by a company that supposedly has ties to CFG
4. There's no community board in the area that would vehemently oppose it

CON:
1. It's slightly too small. You'd need to cantilever over or remove the existing LIRR tracks that run South of the site. (mind you, tracks that are no longer in service)
