Stadium Discussion

Can't imagine we get a groundbreaking ceremony until 2025. Probably pushing the opening back to middle of 2027, which means a lot of road games to start that season.
Still think it will be this year. NYCLDC back in June expected to issue lease in late fall or early winter.

I am concerned on schedule for opening and it missing the spring of 2027. BUT, if MLS truly does change their schedule that year as reported is possible, then they could still technically open that season at the new stadium.

It's rather pathetic when you can't abide free expression, retreat to a comforting silo, but still run to the town square to announce you posted in the silo because otherwise nobody knows. Good luck with that.
It was more of a slight incentive and heads up to follow there if people want to migrate there. As you can tell by the content of the update above, it wasn't anything groundbreaking (no pun intended) and moreso a little morsel that I've been sitting on / monitoring for quite a while now.

Personally, I will be mostly posting on Twitter and a bit on both until some bot or app comes out that can allow me to easily post to both.

I wish it was that, the developers don’t have the lease yet and can’t break ground until they do so
I think Brad Sims got a bit over zealous and broke the “don’t over promise” rule when saying end of September.

During the NYCLDC Board Meeting back in June, they stated they expected the lease to be issued in “late fall / early winter”. So we are still very on track there.

I am concerned though with the published construction schedule in the FEIS and how likely they are going to meet 2027 timelines considering how delayed things are already compared to that schedule. Sims told me and others in the summer that they could speed some things up and they weren’t concerned about missing those dates but things continue to slip (compared to the FEIS construction schedule)

Worse comes to worse they can open the stadium in April or May and play the first few games of the season on the road.

Or, if they move to the winter schedule, they would probably open the stadium in July/August, 2027. (Or, maybe host their first playoff game, if they have home games, because moving to that winter schedule would make it really hard to quickly schedule postseason games at Yankee Stadium or Citi Field).

Is “2027 remains the opening target year” a subtle target change? “Target year” is different from target of opening the season in our new home. I had thought the target was to open our first 2027 match in the new stadium. This language makes it so any match played in all of 2027 satisfies the “target year” goal.

I remember Brad saying in one of his interviews that they had some pad-time built into the stadium build schedule. They were originally hoping to break ground in early September, and construction is supposed to take about 30 months. In that schedule, if they break ground December 1, it would be ready May 1, 2027. Figure there are ways to accelerate, we will start the 2027 season on the road, and maybe by April 1 we can open the stadium. if there are no delays.

So I think the short answer is that yes, this groundbreaking delay is making it tight to open the stadium for the start of the 2027 season, if the MLS schedule remains a summer season.

Also have to factor in that if they change the MLS schedule, we may not open the new stadium until the 2027-28 season, which would be July/August, 2027.

To me, the choice of language was definitely very interesting and slightly concerning in terms of meeting the original spring 2027 goal
