Take the EOS NY Soccer Census

There is a lot to digest here, but let me break it down:

1) You lose me a bit when you say immediately go on attack: "if you've managed to find some kind of non biased journalistic integretity" -- makes me think you have made up your mind. Which is fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just fail to see how our coverage of the team is bias in any way.

Sometimes we find ourselves in a vacuum online, where boards like this have 3-4 loud voices claiming bias, and people accept the narrative without looking into the allegation. Frankly, some of those voices have been so vitriolic it prevents me from visiting here as much as I like. But as far as an institutional bias, I don't see it. Again, I can't change your mind if you are of that school of thought. I just think it's misguided. We can only work harder.

2) Reaching out to fans is a constant goal for us. Getting in bed with any of the three team supporters isnt. When I vet my writers, I never select people who are STH. I want independent voices -- not popular figures within the fan community. That's not to say we dont have exclusive voices. Glenn Crooks writes a weekly column for us (BLUE), just like Mark Fishkin previews RB every week (RED).

3) Having said that, surveys like this are meant to get the pulse of fans on all spectrums -- and allow me to engage you. Try to find another site that does as much with as little resources. And believe me ... we have VERY little resources. I'll wait.

4) I welcome competition. Ask the guys at NYCFC Nation! There is no one that is as welcoming as I am to new faces on the scene. Remember -- this isnt the NFL. We arent killing each other for news. There are a HANDFUL of outlets that even CARE about MLS, let alone NYC, Cosmos or RBNJ. The more the merrier. And let fans decide.

------

The problem with your concerns are, as you say, you see a "perception that is is a home for Reds and occasionally Greens" -- and all we can do is continue to churn out quality news from the team in hopes to change your mind.

Anyway, appreciate the feedback. Feel free to keep going or reach out privately!

I completely disagree with that past poster. I don't understand where this bias thing comes from, frankly. I read your NYCFC content all the time and find very little objectionable on your site. Sure, I may disagree with an opinion here or there, but I don't think having an opinion means your site is biased.

In fact, I'll take it a step further. I want reporters covering my team to NOT be fans of the team they cover. It's why I struggle to read Nick Chavez's stuff (just an example). His celebratory tweets after goals/wins make me not respect his views because I WANT the critical voice covering my team, it's the only way we're going to get truly informed, nuanced journalism on the club.

The "no cheering in the press box" rule has very little to do with the noise volume distracting other writers. They're in a stadium, if they can't handle noise while they work they're never going to get anything done. It has everything to do with making sure you're able to be impartial and nuanced. I actually think Christian, sometimes, comes a little close to sounding like a fan, but I appreciate his enthusiasm for the sport and I hope he maintains his impartiality. I really value your opinion, Dave, and am always interested in seeing your thoughts on the team.

As for the survey, I was glad to fill it out. Like someone else said, I don't have a Premier League team, but I watch the coverage on NBCSN almost every weekend.

I think EoS comes off as slanted towards red bull because there are more RB contributors than NYCFC. I'll vouch for Dave, I know he's neutral.

But doesn't that make sense for a team that's been around 18 years longer than NYCFC? That type of thing will even out, I'd presume, once NYCFC has some history. Not to speak for Dave, but if I was running a website like that I wouldn't just pull anyone off the street. It has to be the right person.

True, that's why I think we NYC fans can be little too hard on EoS sometimes.

Let me just say that I was glad to see you (I assume this is Dave) on this thread and would welcome seeing more activity from you and your team going forward. I certainly wouldn't expect you guys to be active participants in the way the fans are, but weighing in on bits of news or linking to an article would be welcome - at least by me.

I also don't see any bias, but I was among the most upset by the Nazi flag rumors that Christian spread. While I appreciated his apology, I feel pretty strongly that what the situation really needed was a short, clear, unequivocal statement that the rumors were incorrect. Such rumors are serious business, and that's the kind of thing needed to keep them from spreading.

First off -- thanks to everyone for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

To your point, I completely understand the anger over that situation. Thankfully, it was handled -- perhaps a little later than some would want. But credit to Chris for owning up.

As for posting here more often, I was actually posting here last year. Problem was there were 2-3 people that spit so much venom that it made participating nearly impossible for me (some of those people are on this very thread). I am always down for a discussion. I am always looking for ways to improve. But some like to get in the mud for no reason, and frankly, I am too old and waaay too busy for that.

Nevertheless, I still visit the site all the time. The NYCFCForums is an awesome window into the world of the hardcore team supporters. I think it's one of the best online communities for any MLS fanbase, frankly. I'll try to be more active and see how it goes.

Are the results out?

This will be more than simply HERE IS WHO WON THE VOTE. There is a whole integrated process behind it to act like a census, revealing trends and facts behind each of the NY area teams. For instance, we will have a small map for each team, showing where the concentration of fans are for each (hint: NYC is dark, dark, dark blue).

We are shooting for Monday.

love me some data analysis!

I took the survey right away. I answered the question on bias truthfully. I do feel when I read the website that there is some. I don't think it is malicious though. I just find there is typically more Red Bull and Cosmos news on the site. I also think that it has gotten better. I was torn answering the question, but it asked me to be truthful and I was. When I read the website, I tend to think there is some bias there. However, I still think it is a good source for news and I still visit.

Who knows, it could be that there is just so little NYCFC news because as an organization they try to keep everything tight. Either way, I don't think of it as an indictment of the website, but I answered truthfully so that if others feel the same, maybe they can make some changes to improve.

I am not against the site, but I don't visit all that often because I forget about it. When I go over once every couple of weeks, there's usually not much new posted. I know lots of media say the club makes it difficult to get a scoop, but CONTENT IS KING. Even though I know there won't be much real news here on The Forum, I still swing by 99/100 days because there will at least be something new.

I say all that to say, if I knew I was getting some new content every single day, I would be more likely to get in the habit of checking it out the same way I check out ASN.

As an aside, I'm really looking forward to seeing Viewfrom226 in the hypnokit and a spray tan for his next segment.
Sadly, I don't own the hypnokit. Without delving into a fashion debate, I'm not a fan and figured I'd look ridiculous in it (or at least more ridiculous than any grown man looks wearing a football jersey). Hadn't considered the on camera dynamic.

As for the spray tan, I embrace my pasty skin! Love thyself :)

I am realizing that maybe I should flip from a YT show to a blog though...

Keep it up, it's actually terrific. I like the feel that it's from a fan first.

No keep up the videos, it's something that separates you from the pack.

Like I said before, you just need to do some pretty basic stuff to elevate your game. Hell even the body posture stuff will give you a big boost. I like your vids, it's something unique that really adds to the NYCFC fan sphere.

Also can you do a tactics special, I'm trying to pick up as much as I can but I still don't really understand half of what you're talking about.

Its all good. I really appreciated you taking the time to share the feedback. While doing the show with another person would be a lot better, it is probably logistically too challenging given real life. The rest of the stuff should all be achievable, or at least things I can work on in the spirit of self-improvement.

I'll give some thought to the tactics piece. Maybe some sort of an off season series on a few of the most interesting tactical things that we saw with the team this year. I've been trying to think of some good ideas for the offseason since I have more flexibility to do different stuff when there aren't actual matches to talk about.

If I hopped on a train in manhatten how long would it take me to get to your house/recording studio?

About an hour. Its more just an issue of an erratic recording schedule due to a highly variable work schedule that I never know until the day of and the need to be a good parent and husband, etc. You'd be hanging out with us at some pretty early and late hours, though I appreciate the interest.
