The Nasl Thread

I don't know exactly what to say about that quote. Does that guy even soccer?

Well, he's from NASL - the league which nonsensically thinks it should be the top division of US football - so...probably not.

I bet Rayo Vallecano made an initial (probably one-time) investment to have their name tacked onto the team and project and some start-up advise . . . and then an "understanding" or "promise" of help or advice on how to run a club.

They're both owned and run by the same guy, so they could be quite heavily involved. In all likelihood, though, their owner sees the OKC team as a convenient way of dipping into the US market. We'll see though.

They may well be counting on the NASL team being a profit-making endeavour - not to fund the Spanish club, but to avoid them having to constant dip into their own pockets to bail it out.

It will be interesting to see how the two clubs interact, whether they exchange players at all.

Edit: on a quick review, apparently ROKC is owned by Rayo's owner, not by Rayo themselves. I would presume he has the money to bail out both clubs himself.

Interesting to note also that Rayo Vallecano's fans are in uproar about this. Also, I enjoyed this particular quote:

lol at the quote...but to your comments, i think rayo fans are pissed because he is using the Rayo name so i guess its seen as selling out the name as a brand to make money ( if you can make money in NASL) while the club stadium is in shambles and also i think they are behind in payment to players and staff as well as other cuts. Maybe there would not be a huge uproar overthere if the team in OKC was a different name and logo not directly linked to Rayo

i dont know...... so on any given year in the future if rayo ( spains) owner wants out then they leave the club then the club loses the logo and gets completely rebranded? i dont think they would invest like that, at least not a spanish team like rayo, if this was a richer club like real or barca then maybe. i think their owner wants in because he was promised by NASL that he can make a good return on his investment, even though i am not so sure that is the case, especially with many questions marks surrounding NASL

If Rayo Vallecano wants out of Rayo OKC, then any smart contract would have a clause where the American side of Rayo OKC would buy out Rayo Vallecano's share of the team.

And re-branding? That sounds like a paperwork nightmare with NASL. Rayo OKC wouldn't re-brand so willy-nilly unless they got bought out by another group.

It may have been discussed already, and I missed this article from September: http://www.espnfc.us/major-league-soccer/story/2603271/don-garber-mls-wont-get-promotion-relegation

Garber shunning off any notion of pro/rel in MLS. What do you guys think about that? I know NASL wants fuck all to do with MLS, but personally I'd love to see US Soccer come together under one system. Would make it exciting to see new teams get a chance in "American top-flight." We keep adding expansion teams, but at some point the league will / should be full. I don't want to have to watch Chicago fuck themselves to the bottom of the table every year, send us someone different!

i dont think it will happen soon, at most maybe if USL gets a DIV II status then maybe somehow someway a pro/rel happens between USL and MLS and can somehow get a TV deal together as a package. Then it may happen. Ever since Garber said those comments about Chattanooga all the pro/rel truthers or whatever you call them came out in force on social media(to add fuel to the fire also because of landon donovans tweet and Wynalda's US OPEN cup rant) All of a sudden they are saying that NPSL and other random amateur leagues like the ASL are the future of development of the sport here in the USA.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

yes, having clubs that only have college kids and amateurs yes im sure each and everyone of their teams are ready to be division 1 in a couple of years playing in HS/ or college fields yes im sure that is the future. On the MLS owner side they wont agree to it since they already invested or paid that 100 million to be in the MLS and then have it down the drain in one bad season going to Div II whatever that may be.

I think it is safe to say that Pro Reg will never happen with the MLS. You could see Pro/Reg with the USL and the some third division league. I don't think the NPSL and USL-PDL can move up to third division.
