In an event, here's another. This is Deuce-level baiting and trolling. I would probably not go for it on a club, but in USA-v-MEX, well, I love you Matt.

If the little punk hadn’t of chest bumped him, he may have had a case for sympathy, but he was looking for a confrontation and instead got lulz’d.
I just love that Miazga handled himself well. Just the right amount of gtfo while not going overboard (was already on a yellow).
Also, to be fair, Lainez was causing all sorts of trouble for us down that side. Kid looks special.

For me it's because Lainez so obviously fouled Miazga with the shirt pulls, and then decides to initiate a stare down. I actually admire him for holding his own being a full head shorter, but damn, when you take a long pull on an opponent's shirt, you have no cause to get in his face afterwards. Just walk away and take the foul.
I also like the Mexican video feed I posted from twitter over the US TV feed, even though the clip is low-res, because it has a better angle on Miazga's "see-what-he-did?" reaction after Alvarez side-bumps him. It's perfect.
Miazga was a little lucky. Another ref could have carded him for that display. I love it anyway. But he was straddling that line. He also put himself into the mix right after the red card, and the ref got in his face to let him know he'd had all he could take of Matt.
Perhaps part of it was it was a friendly. I think for the most part, refs want to keep red cards in their pockets in friendlies unless necessary (see Mexico red card). I think it's quite possible had Miazga not already received a yellow in this game, he may have received one there.
I was telling someone else this last night, I would take Twellman's takes a lot more seriously if he would just calm the fuck down.
I agreed with his points last night, but I just wish he would stop yelling at me.
I'm surprised he didn't get carded. I would've been fine with it though. It was much better seeing that attitude and the young guys playing together, than the shit show we've seen the last few years. My faith in the USMNT has been restored. I'm on board with Twellman's coaching answer being Tata Martino too.
I think part of it is also that the refs are well aware of the USA-MEX rivalry, and gesturing about height is a lot more tame than fans throwing bags of piss and people getting head-butted.
On another note...ESPN got called out for zooming in on fans and isolating some "Puto" chants last night. The Mexican fans were getting questioned on Twitter and some other sites too. But again, they get defended by many, because everyone is so hyper sensitive about offending that base right now. From what I saw online last night, the same fans that think it's ok to yell Puto were insulted by Miazga's gestures, even calling it racist. What a weird paradox this world has become. This will be an ongoing problem without resolve.
When I went back to Twitter this morning to check on the tweet that was deleted and I searched for "miazga," Twitter suggested I search for "miazga racist." It was the top suggestion. I looked at it and the discussion - in both directions - was as depressing as I expected. Algorithms, dumb people, and our current culture is a toxic brew.
