They were also a different result or two away in the final qualification fixtures from not qualifying for the WC. They also benefit from having soccer as their #1 sport and having a worldly talent in Messi playing for them. But I do agree that even when in shambles they've managed to scrape through, but comparing our roster to Argentina is a bit of a stretch. We don't have a worldly talent or massive youth system to grab talent from. It is improving though, and I'd hate to see the US waste what looks like a very promising youth uprising the next few years.
I'd hate to see this wave of soccer enthusiasm in the US be shut down due to the ineptitude of the US federation and national team. It's crazy to see European clubs setting up offices in the US to expand their fanship/reach and our national team is getting walked off the field by... Canada.
That's what I meant - it's not 100% about the office, but also about the lack of talent in the squad. Our best forward is Altidore. Our defense is quite bad and there aren't too many new faces as of right now that could fill that gap. I think within the next 5 years we'll see a nice talent growth, but right now we have nothing. While this quality is improving, the federation itself needs to improve in tandem, otherwise all that talent might not matter - unless it does, like Argentina did, but on a smaller scale.
These other countries don't have the amount of money we do in the system. They look at the U.S. as an untapped resource and can't understand how we can't field a top tier team. It's the federation as a whole to blame. Are we building for a WC or trying to win games? Why is Bradley playing? We know what we have with him. There were rumored many big managers throughout the world that wanted this job, but they had their mind set on Berhalter. Example: Not saying Tata was the answer, but he was interested and we didn't even speak to him. We are predictable and can hardly produce creative play. Why didn't jesse marsch get a call. He's one of the few Americans worthy of that spot. We just wasted a decent amount of time. Maybe give the job to Tab Ramos. I'd take Jill Ellis at this point.
The x-factor is passion for the game though. We lack it compared to other countries. We need a manager that inspires.

Yeah....I would be able to "accept" a loss to Canada if we had them on the back-foot and they caught us on the counter and snuck one in. But we were dominated last night in nearly every phase. And the only reason I'm using the word "nearly" and not "all", is because I didn't catch the first part of the game.
I get the sense that Marsch wouldn't want the job right now. The last 6 years or so, he's been tuning up for a move to Europe and while the head coaching search was going on, he was positioning himself to be where he is now.
I do agree that Marsch is one of the few Americans worthy of the spot (though I hate how whiny he was with the Red Bulls). I just don't think he wants it. At least not yet. Perhaps down the road.
The head coach of the USMNT is the brother of the soon to be number one executive at USSF. We're not going to be successful until this entire generation of USSF executives retires.
someone needs to start a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for private detectives to get dirt on these people, force them to resign, and then stick twellman in there so he can do the job since he loves to complain about the federation so much. haha.
I don't think Twellman would do a better job at all. He's great at commentating about how poor everything is but I don't think he has the executive know-how on how to fix it all.
oh i know. it was a sarcastic solution cause he's been the biggest public voice about how disastrous the federation is. lots of complaints, no real solutions, and most of all, no ACTIONS to back up his words.

Here's something that's irked me for a while. Eurosnobs who got into soccer when Barcelona started their run with Messi who look down on MLS and think Tiki Taka is the end all be all of soccer. That it's the only fucking way to be successful. Personnel be damned. You need a fucking system that hides your weaknesses and boosts the strengths of the talent you have.
Berhalter only got the job because of his brother and it's embarrassing that we missed out on Tata because of nepotism. Then again in the U.S. nepotism is present at the very top. Like it's been said in here, his system doesn't work for the players we have and also because it's a club system. The NT is not nearly in camp enough to implement it quick enough.
And eurosnobs want to only blame MLS, then fine. Don't call up any MLS players at all and call bench warmers in the Latvian 2nd division then since "Europe" is the magic bullet.

i'd be really surprised if he doesn't select the dutch. only reason he may go with the US is perhaps more guaranteed playing time. but if you aren't playing in big competitions or the world cup, what's the point? if he picks the US, i think it would be because he doesn't feel like he's good enough to make it into the starting xi for the dutch or at least be a reliable sub off the bench.
but no one knows but him. i just know if i were in his shoes, i'd pick the dutch and train my ass off.
The only thing that would be better than Dest declaring for us, is if he put the stipulation that his loyalty is paid for by jettisoning Berhalter. That’s be like the eight nights of soccer Hanukkah wrapped up in one.
