Understood, but pretty crazy he isn’t getting more of a look. Would like to know the reasoning. Age and inexperience is such a bs reason IMO
Don’t know about you all but I’m very nervous of a Mexico blow out tomorrow. I don’t think this team is ready to pull out an away win at the Azteca.
There has been some interesting back and forth on social media about whether Berhalter will or should go for a result and start a strong team. He made public comments about discussing playing a "B team" with his staff and saying we all will see tomorrow what their decision is. He's downplayed our chances saying our record in Azteca is terrible.
Not everyone is buying it. Many suspect he is bluffing. It's a really tough call. We have to beat Panama, but Mexico has not been strong this cycle, and we've won 3 important games over them in a row.

I think the US should go for it. This Mexican team has been terrible.
I do think that we'll beat Panama at home, and I'd rather we go for it and try to get qualification out of the way prior to the game in Costa Rica. Granted, this Tico team has virtually no attack, but we haven't gotten a result down there in what seems like forever. Don't leave it to the last match.

We've won those games with our "B team"... so playing that squad wouldn't be the worst thing. Those players seem to perform better under pressure than our supposed A squad.
I'm fine with B or a mixed B+ squad. If we're down 2-0 at the half rest all the A players for Panama.
I think think the Panama game is likely to be everything. If we lose to Mexico but beat Panama, we have 24 points and clinch over Panama even with their presumed win tonight against Honduras. Then Costa Rica has to win both games to stay in range of us, including tonight against Canada. I know you can't count on anything but Canada has been a force and has not yet clinched. I think Canada gets a result tonight.
OTOH even if we win tonight, we still need a result against Panama, though it can be a tie. Basically I'm OK with whatever the coaches and squad decide with how to approach tonight.
Also, this could be the last USA-Mexico qualifying match for a long time. Neither has to qualify in 4 years, then the pool is expanded, CONCACAF gets more spots, and CONCACAF might go to qualification via multiple groups. Then most likely the US and Mexico are in different groups and can qualify without needing to play against each other.

Yeah, I think I would go with a B/B+ squad (don't start Adams, other guys on yellows, or those that may need more rest such as Reyna). But I don't feel terribly strong about it that I wouldn't mind if we ran out the A squad tonight.
I've really disliked how we've approached the road qualifiers this cycle, so I'm sure I'll be disappointed with whatever Gregg does tonight. We really should go for it. Mexico is shaky as hell, and even at the Azteca let's see what we're made of.

This kind of garbage makes me so angry.
The overthink from Gregg is infuriating.

That should always be the plan...always.
Not this, let's trot out the B-team so we can look ahead for the next game and hopefully get a draw because our record hasn't been great yada yada yada.
