Except that Crepeau gets credited with a save and GMS statistically took 2 shots in that same sequence. I don't see how you can have a pass-shot-save-shot and get an assist for that second shot.

I guess -- even the YES guys initially gave him the assist there because, let's face it, that's an assist even if it isn't credited as one. That goal doesn't happen without his great pass.
Really it's no different than when Keaton Parks flicked the ball to Taty for the winner against Houston. Taty shot, it was saved, and he knocked in the rebound. No assist for Parks on a beautiful play. Because of the bang-bang timing last night it feels very different, but it's the same thing.

It should feel wrong. It was very bang-bang, but assists are an imperfect stat. Sometimes, that's how it goes.
Why does it feel wrong? The point of an assist is completing a pass to a teammate who then scores. Maxi didn’t complete the pass. Full stop.

Yes he did. GMS ran onto it, took the shot, it deflected off the goalie back off GMS for the goal. GMS got the initial touch, not Crepeau.
That should be an Exhibit in favor of the Second Assist. Because they are awarded by discretion, and if handled properly, are more likely to mean something than your average assist is.

Thought we played very well yesterday. I just wish Dome would figure out and fix our issue with losing focus in the middle of the match. We let them get back into it around the 50th minute. They controlled the game for 5-10 minutes and scored. Got to fix that.
We did what we had to against a very poor team on turf (which is worse than Yankee stadium) Although we did take our foot off the gas and attempt to throw it away for a bit.

great free kick to catch the keeper cheating to his far post. not a good decision by the keeper, but mitri took advantage, which is what he should be doing. hope he continues this form and level of effort! it's been extremely refreshing to see his attitude change after being one of his harshest critics.
