That's not even a question. But it'll never happen. His wife is from there and Porter was his coach at Akron. Can't see him leaving PTFC for another MLS team.

We should steal Manneh if that could happen. Dude is a beast, and a dark horse for 2018 IMO.

I don't know. It seems way too much for a player who looked to be done last season and at the WC. Maybe he can have a renaissance like Pirlo did but I doubt it.
 
I'm pretty sure if 35 year old Javier Morales can still perform at or above MLS standards then 34 year old Xavi can do it. If CFG want to blow their money that's their problem. To NYCFC and the budget, it's all the same DP hit on the cap.
 
I don't think money is an issue with the two owners we have so if they want to throw a lot of money at an older player to get him to come here I don't have a problem with it
 
The similar Spanish sources that were reporting villa are reporting on Xavi now. I do have my hopes up but I too won't jump to conclusions until it comes from nycfc. @Nick Chavez is very excited though
 
He'll be worth the price in ticket, jersey and advertising he brings in. If not in quality of play.
 
Before anyone dismisses Xavi after a down year-based on his lofty standard- in arguably the most demanding league currently in existence, I urge you to remember that Bradley Wright Philips is the top scorer in MLS.

I've made this point before, but I'd have 7 goals playing next to Henry. Hell, Kenny Cooper put in 18. Luke fucking Rodgers had 10.

It's not a secret that playing next to Henry gets you goals. His old ass doesn't run much, but he's quite crafty.

I think Xavi will be a good player. But I just can't stand the suggestion that BWP is anything other than the beneficiary of circumstance. If he were half the player that Dempsey/Keane/Dwyer is, he'd have more than 20. He's not in the top 20 forwards in the league for me.

BWP is a damn good player but you're right, his stats don't really match up to his actual skill. Just look at his goal celebrations, even he knows most of them are gifted to him.

Fair point. I also think Henry's continued influence bodes well for Xavi in MLS. Raw physical ability wasn't what made him world class anyway.

There's no extra details in that report that haven't been said before. This isn't a new rumour coming out, it's a rehash. You guys are going to get very used to these all in good time. It's just an old story which has been recycled so that the website can look like it has new news to print.

Both arguments are fair. BWP is most definitely a beneficiary of circumstance, but he is also an example of why top players from the world's best leagues can play well into their late thirties in the current MLS. BWP is not one of those players but manages to contribute based on a 36 year-old former superstar providing him service. That is not to say, by the way, that it is all down to Henry–I've watched highlights of all of BWP's goals (after having watched him in England since he was fairly young) and his finishing is currently up there with the best in the MLS, including Dempsey, Keane, Dwyer, Defoe, Donovan, Henry, and Martins.

I don't think anyone can make a realistic argument that MLS is currently of the same quality as the Premier League, La Liga, or Bundesliga. But I think there is a very convincing one for it being there in 10 or so years. At which point it will have the money, competitions, and media interest to begin attracting the best prime talent in the world (and especially South America).

Xavi, if signed, will be a great player for NYCFC. He can no longer perform at the necessary level in La Liga or highest level international tournaments, but he will be able to run the midfield in MLS. And plant the seeds of interest (and hopefully understanding of that type of play) in the next great midfield maestros in the US and abroad.
