I appreciate the suggestion, but I'd prefer to keep this to new players. Otherwise there would be a lot of additional signings from previous years as well.

Might be helpful to have a count on here of how many players remained on the roster from the previous season.

True. I waws just thinking of it in terms of "how often nycfc announces a 'signing' " which in this case seems less based on the spreadsheet, whereas in actuality there was a bit more movement than seems. Just my two cents, I appreciate your comment though

We don’t have a USL investment.

We haven’t paid a big transfer fee.

We haven’t paid big contracts since the first go around.

We have no clue if we use all the TAM but it would appear we do not.

And our infrastructure is towards the bottom of the league.

Obviously this is subjective, but ...

Where NYCFC ranks?

I'm not on board with where he puts all the teams, but his NYCFC Tier 1?, maybe? comment is spot on I think.

Based on his criteria we are only checking 3 of the 6 boxes at the moment:

Big transfer fees - Nope
Big contracts - Yes in the past
Full DP haul - Yes
Full use of TAM - Nope, we've shown no sign of using the discretionary TAM that expires at the end of this season, I'm not even sure we've spent all of the Harrison GAM
Full USL team investment - Nope
Full academy investment - Yes

"Maybe" seems very generous at this point.

Which is why I think Doyle's answer makes sense. He pairs us with LAFC and says they just need time but as for us who knows anymore.

4 years ago almost everyone would have given his LAFC answer about NYCFC. Everyone figured CFG would go to Tier 1 in a short time. But either that was never the plan, or the buy-in to Tier 1 was higher than CFG expected, or they have a very lengthy ramp up. Now nobody has any clue what the plan is.

Are we sure we have a full Academy investment?

Website lists that there are boys teams from u12 to u18/19. 3 girls teams. All have roster names.

No idea how that compares to other clubs.

I was wondering why he thinks we might get there but is content to put RBNJ and others in their tier indefinitely.

But other clubs have whole training centers just for their Academies.

How is that better than leasing space from a local college and having a training center with one locker room and a single pitch tablet?

I figure he thinks he knows what their arc is, but has no idea what ours is. If we are not Tier 1, then what? 1A? 2? Until a new direction becomes apparent, you don't have a reason to switch even though you also have no reason to stand pat.

Think of the cross educational opportunities
