2019 Offseason Thread

Date ranges added. It seems pretty obvious when you say it. I guess I was just being a bit lazy. The double yellow were a suggestion, I believe from adam a while back to designate the start of training camp each year.

Also, happy to share the spreadsheet. I think I did so when I first posted it, but here's the link again.

One thing that stands out after looking closely at this chart is that our earlier signings are heavily MLS and other domestic acquisitions. Many international players arrive closer to and after camp. It would be sweet if we have another post training 2017 acquisition spree, that was fire.
Basically, it's not too late to significantly improve this roster so hopefully they bring in the 2 or 3 pieces we need to be a top contender.

Let’s say we wanted to go with a 4-3-1-2 this season. You could play Ring at the base of your midfield, with Ofori to his left and Parks to his right. Maxi has total freedom behind two Strikers.

Who are those Strikers? Who the hell knows.

But Ofori is a left footed midfielder who is good in position. And he can play LWB.

Honestly, with injuries and international breaks not being respected by MLS, we kind of do need a fuck ton of midfielders. Ofori wasn't great but he was serviceable and could fill in as a viable backup.

But Ofori is a left footed midfielder who is good in position. And he can play LWB.

I see it like this:
In the midfield we have (in order of playability as we know currently):
Ring-Maxi-(Sands<->Parks)-Haak-Bedoya-Rocha.
You could even argue Medina could play LM/CM/RM as well. That's 8 people in the midfield already... Do we really see enough rotation for the backups to play?
Let's say we play a 4-3-1-2... That's 4 midfielders, so I could see a rotation here and there, but not much use for a lot of the players.
What if we do indeed play 3-5-2 or 3-3-2-2 or 3-4-3? Then I could see more use for each player.

Didn’t he have a prohibitive transfer cost? Around $1M?

If the club wants to pay that, and his salary that’ll go with it, it’s gonna be a TAM level move which seems a reach for a player of his ability.

This seems like a panic signing..... to come so long after his loan ended.

I saw all I needed to see last year to warrant a service slip assigned to the scouting dept to find a MF player that can use both feet to pass and dribble.

Thx. I did just see that, but was annoyed he didn't stretch NYC out over the full graph. Although I realize why he did it this way to maintain uniformity among all the clubs. And yes it has me thinking about an all time graph.

Also, for all our bitching and moaning, 1.50 over 136 games is pretty good.

If this is true you have to wonder if the Club thinks Sands is another year away from playing substantial minutes.

In the 4-3-3, we really need 3 good quality center mids to cover the 2 positions behind Maxi. Last year, those were Ring, Herrera and Ofori. In 2017, it was Ring, Herrera and some combination of Tommy and Pirlo. Experience shows that there are plenty of minutes go around.

So, now we have Ring, Parks and Ofori for those 3 spots. Sands is probably the next guy on the list, but that doesn't leave him with the kind of minutes he would get if he were in the top 3. In 2018, the top 4 minutes at CM went: Ring 2,608; Ofori 1,895; Herrera 1,111; Ofori 430. In 2017, it was: Ring 2,604; Herrera 1,223; Pirlo 1,085; Lopez 609.

Fine for depth. He’s not spectacular by any stretch, but he settled into the system fairly well. We need a striker yesterday, even if it’s a ITS level player. In fact, we get someone on that level or a little higher, spend big on a striker in the summer window, might be just what we need for the stretch into the playoffs
