2020 CCL

We can also add that Montreal qualified for CCL out of the MLS.

ETA. Wait, if Toronto wins they don't get the MLS Cup spot? I know it belongs to the USSF, but they are an MLS team. I would think it would go like this.

Canadian Championship: MTL
USOC: ATL
West/SS: LAFC
East: NYCFC
MLS Cup: TOR

Does Toronto not quality for CCL by winning MLS Cup alone?
Right. When Toronto won the MLS Cup in 2017, that did not get them a CCL spot. Their CCL spot was from winning the Canadian Cup. In a normal year, the CCL spot would have gone to us as 2nd in the Supporters Shield, but 2017 and 2018 were that weird period where they combined qualification over two years, and the CCL berth went to the Red Bulls because they had the most points over the two seasons.

While on the SCCL website I perused the regulations. I don't know how we provide a compliant stadium. I pulled out the relevant stuff.

They want access the day before the match to both install signage and for the visiting team to train for at least an hour. You can only provide a practice field if weather dent allow for practice in the stadium. Also, we have to have a backup stadium at the ready if there is a issue with the main stadium. I hope they canned those rules a bit...

Probably should help us that MLS is planning to start the season in February -- so we won't be in midseason form, but we also won't be in preseason form either.

what's the problem with our stadium based on these guidelines? baseball doesn't start til march. granted, yankee stadium's grass may not be great, but if they can get the sod down early enough, it should be good enough to play on. size wise, it meets fifa minimum regulations. as far as letting the other team train and such, i don't see why the club wouldn't arrange to make that happen?

we’d play the next round in April.

Yankee Stadium will be available for all potential dates in the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals.

For the Semifinals, Yankee Stadium would only be available if we were to host the second leg, and then only if we do so on Tuesday, April 14. Citi Field would be available for all the potential first leg dates of April 7-9.

For the Finals, Yankee Stadium is not available for either leg. Citi Field would be available to host the first leg on April 28 only.

I know other reporters have had this info too, but it's out there. The league is starting a couple weeks earlier next year in response to ending the regular-season a couple weeks earlier.

Right. The regular season this year ended 3 weeks earlier than usual.

As I understand it, they couldn't start the regular season 3 weeks earlier this year because they have a mandated length of time for the off-season in the bargaining agreement with the players. Now that this season is ending earlier, they should be able to have the mandated off-season and also start next season earlier. Of course, they are also renegotiating the bargaining agreement this off-season anyway.

Also worth noting that moving the start of the season up 3 full weeks would have it starting more mid-February (15-16), rather than late February, so maybe they aren't thinking of doing all 3 weeks.

In the end, the league has the flexibility to do this due to all the new teams in the South, which allows most of the games in the colder months to be played in warmer cities.

We're the highest seeded American team?

they seed based on previous CCL performance by that seed. Eastern conference winner has done well past few years compared to other MLS qualifiers. If we win MLS cup, we’d actually drop to the lowest US seed. But doesn’t matter as long as we’re in Pot 1.
