Alleged Sexual Harassment at NYCFC

My inclination is to believe people when they claim they were abused.
But it’s a vigilant sort-of belief

ehhh.Fuck it. No one cares about logic and reason or anything else these days other than supporting whatever far left or right agenda is important to them or them or them others being popular to their friends that week.

crazy times. Everyone has checked their brain at the fucking door.

I believe these accounts unless I am given reason to not believe it. And frankly, we all saw how silly Villa was with everyone. Wetting the equipment person's shirt, generally being a goofball with the support staff, etc. Is it really that unreasonable to think maybe he went over the line?

Do I think he meant to cross the line, or did so with malicious intent? Probably not. But I can absolutely believe a scenario exists in which Villa was being silly and handsy, and crossed the line without realizing he was crossing the line. Just because he seemed to be that way with lots of people based on the behind the scenes videos and stuff. I hope it's not true because of how much he means to the Club, but if you ask me whether I believe Villa or the accuser, I believe the accuser at this stage.

I believe you can believe who you want at this stage. I believe both, if that’s possible.
Let’s just let it play out. This all doesn’t feel very Cosby to me. And I don’t mean to diminish the young woman who feels aggrieved/ was abused. There’s just not enough info out there that substantiates this, or even what this is, to say more than I hope our club is better than hiding harassment in all the ways.

that said, I will be fully out if it comes out this was actually bad faith actions and/or willful ignorance. That shit is inexcusable.

I’m a long leash, short rope kind of guy Fuck up my trust, and I’ll be leading the charge out the door.

eta: sucked into twitter shit anyway.
Fuck me, I suppose.

I don’t believe her. Drag me. I don’t care.

What's the basis for already dismissing the claims? We've only got a couple of Tweets and a peculiarly worded response from Villa.

Not saying she's right or he's right, but cancel culture is a thing now, and it's very easy for someone to ruin another person's career because the entire universe jumps on the "he's right" or "she's right" bandwagon, way too quickly. Let investigations ensue, press them to make sure they investigate properly, and that will take care of the situation.

It might just be a thing like Villa maybe did something that he doesn't consider "sexual harassment" (say, something he does with the male coaches often but when done with a female coach might be viewed as "sexual harassment"), but she does, and might not merit a real sexual harassment case. It could also be legit sexual harassment, in which case a full investigation etc would be considered. We don't know, and therefore I think it's not right to call her or him to blame at the moment.

I wonder who we'd believe if the allegations were against Chicharito or Vela or Pulasic.

FWIW, I believe both sides are plausible, and there is too little information for me to have anything like "belief" about truth at this point. Whatever suspicions any of us has about whether these types of claims tend to be accurate vs false allegations probably speaks a lot about the media we each consume.

Absolutely right. No woman has ever made false claims before....ever!

Literally everyone in the world already knows this. What possible good does it do for someone to come out and dismiss someone's story without any evidence? I'd rather stfu and let the investigations run their course, rather than continue perpetuating a system that has failed women for generations.

Really hope it's not true. It's very hard to prove a negative in these cases. He's probably my favorite athlete I've ever seen play live. I used to have his goals scored at games I've been to memorized but I think it's damn close to a full goal a game. My enthusiasm for the team is sort of at an all time low already (beside from being busy /drained in general) it's why I haven't posted in awhile. I'm not impressed with our management on or off the field , flux on issues with the ownership group, and Covid taking away the live experience (which is the main reason to follow MLS IMO ) if it's all just on tv might as well just stick to higher level leagues... trying not to let this take me out of the club all together at least for this year) If somehow proven absolutely true I could still appreciate his attacking brilliance on the field but wouldn't be able to wear the kit and tshirt I have with his name on them.

As other posters mentioned I believe Villa's "handiness" is due to his antics and culture. While I'm 99% sure he meant no sexual harm, it made the intern uncomfortable and that's a complete no-no for me. I also agree that the FO higher ups should have not taken this lightly and informed Villa of his actions but i'm sure they did want to "upset" him. By doing so, it gave the impression that Villa has no accountability and seem untouchable.(pardon the pun). I truly am sorry for the intern, she had to change her career because she realized this form of no accountability is ingrained in these types of environments.

I only hope that after this internal investigation, there is a statement from all parties indicating any follow up or a disclosure on new accountability practices on players. it should be strictly enforced no matter who it is.

if you really come to think of it, this can affect a lot of things
1. Future players coming to the club
2. Future staff coming to the club
3. NYCFC future accountability practices
4. Club relationship with Villa
5. Club relationship with QBFC

That’s really disappointing. I’m glad the club actually followed through with an Independent investigation and found there was wrongdoing. It just sucks that there was in fact wrongdoing and someone’s life was impacted.

An unnamed person getting an unnamed discipline is not exactly following through.

That is some....interesting timing to drop that statement.

It's beyond disappointing to know that players were involved, and that the culture was allowed to develop in the locker room. I'm sure others will feel differently, and I get it, but it would be hard for me now to give Villa the full throttle 'club legend' treatment that he would have otherwise deserved. I loved the guy, but I'd be happy for him to stay at Queens FC or whatever they're called for all I care now.

Welp. This type of situation should never happen and I'm sure no one wants that kind of attention but we of all MLS clubs definitely don't need that type of publicity.
I hope the young lady gets some satisfying justice.
