That's great news. With the League of Nations stuff inhibiting the opportunities for friendlies against WCF-quality opponents outside of the confederation, it's a necessity the US participate in more of these.

    they will probably move it.

usually june is copa america and july is gold cup...OR they get rid of the second gold cup and have the league of nations thing happening as mentioned already.

does that quote from the article suggests they might invite teams from outside North and South America? Like Asia or Africa or Europe?

I'm sure I speak for the whole forum when I say I utterly condemn your wanton disregard of Antarctica United.

Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious, but...how does this fill their pockets? I'm not going to argue over whether or not it's a beneficial competition because that's a very opinion-oriented subject, but surely regimenting member nations into a strict pro/rel-based competition removes most of the ability for association presidents to extort appearance fees and so on from potential opponents? The only thing I can think of immediately that could apply is prize money, but...I really don't see there being much, especially at the lower levels.

Hey, look, this thread hasn't been touched in two years and the CONMEBOL Copa America 2019 begins on Friday, June 14 when the Neymarless Brazil take on Bolivia.

This tournament's non-CONMEBOL invitee nations are Japan and totally legitimate footballing powerhouse Qatar.

Will Messi finally win a trophy with Argentina?

2020 invitees will apparently be Qatar and Australia.

I figured "hey, ARG and COL are the two of the best teams in CONMEBOL, I bet this match will be fun to watch!", and I was real real real real real real real real real real real really wrong.

ARG just had zero ideas about how to get through COL's 4-5-1. It also doesn't help that they seem fundamentally unwilling to even try to figure out how to get both Messi and Dybala on the field at the same time. God, what a stinker.

That said, both of COL's goals were pretty wicked.

there is a whole conspiracy theory behind that. Basically Conmebol pissed at CONCACAF/SUM over rights of the Copa america name in the US not sure if after 2016 it went downhill, because conmebol didnt get 100% of the profits. thats why US soccer did the whole "invitational" tournament to try and make up with them for 2020 but conmebol was like "FOH"

i think Qatar got screwed in the end, the two replays i saw looked like penalty, went to VAR and nothing.
the crowds have been bad this tournament, even the Brazil opener was really lackluster and i think it didnt even sell out. Argentina- Colombia was the exception.
