Yes, in theory, but I suspect that "The 2016 contracts options for Kwame Watson-Siriboe, Jeb Brovsky, Ned Grabavoy and Pablo Alvarez were declined" is a euphemism for "The contract options for 3 of them were declined and we used our right to dump the 4th even though his contract ran another year."And I believe we still have the ability to release one player and not have their salary count towards the cap, correct?
Was subbed in for the last 10 minutes at RSL and was an unused sub against Houston. Other than those 2, never saw the 18.also Connor Brandt.....did he ever play?
DEPTH CHART FOR 2016
(players listed at most natural position even if they could/would be moved to others)
Forward: Villa, Mullins, Shelton, Taylor
Left Mid:
Center Mid: Lampard, Mix, Poku, McNamara
Right Mid: Ballouchy
Defensive Mid: Pirlo, Jacobson
Left Back: Wingert
Center Back: Hernandez, Mena, Brandt
Right Back: Iraola, Allen
I'd draw it up slightly differently:
Forward: Villa, Mullins
Wide: Shelton, Taylor, Ballouchy
Mid Attacking: Lampard, Poku, McNamara
Mid Holding/Defensive: Pirlo, Mix, Jacobson
Left Back: Wingert
Center Back: Mena, Hernandez, Brandt
Right Back: Iraola, Allen
Looks like we need another forward and/or wide player, a left back, and a center back.
How about Barker, Angelino, and Facey?
With their low loanee salaries, it'll barely touch the cap. Then blow our limited cap space on a $200k-300k international free agent. And add another Shelton type thru the draft. Boom.
Looks like we need another forward and/or wide player, a left back, and a center back.
Jhon Hurtado is also a green card holder. We have a defender in Hurtado who is on trial with the team now, and a forward in Bardic who was on trial with the team before. It's looking good!
Interesting. I had him in at LB at first. Then I switched to Brandt as more natural for that side. I like RJ a lot. But I think we have to expect a rested Iraola to reclaim RB. Then what do you do with RJ? I suppose he could compete for LB or RM if he sees the need to redefine himself to get playing time.I really think any lineup without RJ is not our best lineup.
I was interested in learning more about this recently, and even was considering starting a thread on it, but figured it would invite comments from some of the oft-ignored and would therefore prove marginally useful to folks who wouldn't see most of the posts.Does anyone know what formations PV most often played the EDS squad?
Given the roster news today:
If we go 4-3-3 and want all of our central players on the field, I think it looks something like this:
Villa - Poku - Lamps
TMac - Pirlo - Mix
Brandt - 200K CB - Mena - Iraola
Saunders
If we go 4-4-2:
Villa - Lamps
TMac - Pirlo - Mix - Medhi
Brandt - 200K CB - Mena - Iraola
Saunders

If the Brandon Barker rumor comes to fruition, I'm hopefully he's capable of trying out the right wing and cutting inside with his left foot:
Just gotta finish sorting out that defense.
